On #PoliticsNation this weekend, I spoke with former Atlanta Mayor and Democratic candidate for Governor of Georgia Keisha Lance Bottoms about the growing redistricting fights unfolding across the South and what’s at stake for Black political power and voting rights ahead of the 2028 election cycle. As Georgia Republicans move toward a special legislative session on redistricting following the Supreme Court’s Louisiana decision, Bottoms warned against efforts to dilute minority voting strength and discussed her proposed Georgia-based “Johnson Lewis Voting Rights Act,” named in honor of Congressman John Lewis and State Senator Leroy Johnson. We also discussed her campaign for governor, the surge in voter turnout across Georgia, and why many voters are demanding leadership that will protect voting rights, expand access to the ballot box, and push back against the chaos coming out of Washington.
