Today, I met with @MeneWamkele, Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area, to discuss how Canada can support the implementation of the world’s largest free trade area on the African continent. This will advance inclusive growth and create new opportunities for Canadian businesses to trade and invest across Africa.

The African Development Bank plays a critical role in advancing economic development and social progress across Africa.

I paid a courtesy call on H.E. Ambassador Ben Marc Diendéré, Canada’s Special Envoy for Africa, on the margins of the EU–Ethiopia Business Forum in Addis Ababa. We discussed strengthening Africa–Canada trade and investment through the AfCFTA, with focus on digital trade, trade facilitation, and private sector engagement.

Today we honour the 157 lives lost on Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 on March 10, 2019. This includes 18 Canadians, as well as permanent residents and others with ties to Canada. Canada stands with the families and all who continue to grieve.
