A "storm highway" is possible from the West to the South and East Coast next winter as El Niño supercharges the subtropical jet stream. Chances for extreme rainfall and severe storms will probably both be much higher than normal. Not looking like the best winter to head south!

@MatthewCappucci Not all stations, CBS Colorado lets us chase the weather, and report in it. From fire to blizzards. This was today near Kiowa, CO. 1 met in the studio, I head out in the field.

TV news needs to be informative, entertaining or edifying. Doing the same seasonal packages we did in 1997 isn’t going to work. Plus it’s boring. There’s not a ton of original reporting left in local TV anymore. Find/tell some real stories and re-earn the public trust.

Most TV news stations are lazy. Mindless fluff is easy. “It’s hot — drink water” isn’t a story. Neither is a reporter interviewing people at a waterpark. Nor the bread and milk reporters or the big pile of salt reporter before a snowstorm. No wonder TV news is dying.
Dave Bondy@DaveBondyTV

I never understood dedicating two minutes to a news story letting people know that it’s going to be extremely hot. The meteorologist can tell you that.

There has been quite the confusion about the arrival time of this CME! Here it is explicitly broken down by popular time zones. For North Americans, please note that when I say "Sunday night" in my posts, this INCLUDES Monday morning. Sunday night = June 8 UT day, Monday night = June 9 UT day. The G3 watch is for Monday UT day which is effectively Sunday night since 0 UT starts at 8 pm EDT. Official forecasts from NOAA SWPC are given in UT (Universal Time). This is the same as GMT, UTC, and Zulu time. Your aurora app may automatically convert the UT time zones to your local time zone, so be aware of that.

AR 4461 produced an M1.8 flare at 06/1401 UTC. This event was associated with a filament eruption and subsequent CME of which analysis and modeling is currently underway. An Earth-directed component is currently anticipated and would likely arrive on June 8th by rough estimates.
