Spending more money on education is surprisingly ineffective at boosting teacher salaries. Inflation-adjusted K-12 funding is up 25% from 2002-2020. Average teacher salaries are down 0.6%. educationnext.org/states-are-bad… A thread on my latest column for @EducationNext (1/6)

@JasonBedrick @matthewladner This is egregious on his part. Each claim is SO different. Conflating “20% of accounts were involved in some kind of misspending” with “20% of the $1 billion program was misspent” is worse than sloppiness.

For example, Harris now claims that he never said 20% of ESA funds were spent fraudulently, just that 20% of accounts misspent. The reality is that he has claimed variously that 20% of accounts misspent AND that 20% of transactions had misspending and 20% of funds were misspent. Only the first claim is defensible, but even then it is misleading because only 1.9% of funds were spent on unallowed items and only 0.3% were fraudulent or egregious—a far cry from Craig’s absurd 20% claim.

Glad to see @azedschools correcting the record yet again as @12News’s Craig Harris continues to lie about AZ’s ESA program and refuses to retract his debunked claims. He has even gone so far as to try rewriting history. Fortunately, we have receipts.

BREAKING: Arizona Dept of Education sent a formal letter to @12News president Kate Morris about their lies. "The Dept prepared a news release last week to correct an outrageous report from KPNX that said up to 20% of ESA expenditures involve fraud or inappropriate purchases."

Every one of our neighboring states have opted-in to President Trump’s school-choice program. Laura Kelly and the Democrat’s have stood in the way of this funding being delivered to our students, but today, the Kansas Senate took real action to deliver this life-changing funding that will give low-income families the same freedom to choose the best educational paths for their children as higher income families. When I’m governor, we will not have to overcome these types of obstacles.

@CraigHarrisNews @ClarkRimsza @12News You claimed that ADE's study didn't use a random sample. The latest report of all transactions shows Marketplace accounted for 12.9% of all spending The study sample had Marketplace at 13.2% If the sample wasn't random the numbers would be way different.

The anti-Ed Tech and pro-book movements are gaining momentum, especially for elementary grades. Let's get the memo to the nation's curriculum selection committees, pronto. They're making curriculum choices right now that schools will live with for the next 5-7 years. My latest for @CurriculumIP: Feat. @JonHaidt @natwexler @mark_bauerlein @KelseyTuoc

President @realDonaldTrump and congressional Republicans created an innovative school-choice program last year. Will blue-state governors take advantage of it or let their own citizens lose out? Check out @CBarnard33's latest for @TheHillOpinion.

It’s no secret that Democrats despise school choice! But they should answer this question: Do they hate it so much that they'll let a huge amount of their home states’ wealth flow to Republican competitors? The latest by FGA's @CBarnard33 for @TheHillOpinion. 🔗 BELOW.

Hard to know exactly what the KIPP DC board was focused on during this time period but you can get some sense looking through the board materials and minutes, which are online kippdc.org/about-kipp-dc/…

That program-specific list will likely come in the next few months. Keep in mind it's a low bar. Avg. annual wage for someone with only a HS diploma is around $35k. These programs have received billions in federal loans/aid but haven't delivered value for students.

The federal DOE just updated the FAFSA to flag colleges where graduates don't earn more than high school grads. Takeaways: 1. About 23% of institutions will be flagged (1,300+ schools), although most of them are quite small. 2. A lot of for-profit universities on the list 3. Nearly 600 beauty schools 4. 40 or so community colleges

Charlie Kirk was a bold, passionate defender of America and our shared values. He didn’t just believe in life and liberty—he lived it by bringing the message to college campuses and engaging young people, regardless of their worldview, in a conversation that won many hearts and minds. While his cultural accomplishments were immense, Charlie was a husband and father first, and I grieve deeply for his wife and children. Let’s join together in prayer that his family will experience God’s perfect love and peace in the middle of their unimaginable heartbreak.

@PhilWMagness This sounds like they came up with a good headline and then wrote the piece. Which, let’s be honest, I can’t cast stones at. But I can cast stones at their ideas, which are bad.
