The precedent of firing comedians for jokes, even offensive ones, is a bad one. The Roseanne decision was wrong. Making two bad decisions doesn’t fix the wrong decision, it just keeps setting bad precedents going forward. Disney’s new CEO should chart a new course.

Disney fired Roseanne for making a joke on Twitter. If I were the new CEO of Disney, I would rehire Roseanne and announce that as the new CEO of a creative company I’m giving broad latitude for jokes, no matter who might find them offensive. Would be a smart play.
