@Dallas_Holladay Supported a 16week miscarriage a few months ago. North island Japanese couple in London. Mother held it, wrapped up, until tiny heart stopped. Mother placed it carefully on the gurney. No one cried until couple were spotted bowing to the blanket with the greatest reverence

I delivered a 20 month old fetus with a heartbeat, to hand it to the mother so she could hold it as it died while getting a phone call from radiology about my patient dissecting from their coronaries to their Iliac with a BP of 220/110. Please be kind to us. We are trying.

We walk out of these rooms and situations and go right back to being bombarded with requests for other patients. Carrying that weight. Emotionally distraught. But have to keep going

@RasuShrestha @Brian_Eastwood @AtriumHealth Amen @RasuShrestha. Edge Healthcare is the way of the future. Push care to the people and protect our vital national infrastructure that is the rural health system. Independent, community-owned stable rural hospitals are the future. What’s old is new again.

Smart people - Which health systems have been doing good things r/e #telehealth and #homehealth? Looking for recommendations for a piece I'm doing. (Just hospital/system names are fine - I can take things from there.) Please and thank you.

In the last 36 hours, I've gone from Inbox 3,800 to Inbox 1,000. Stress went down a few levels until I realized there are a few hundred important people that I hate me for not responding :(

The final tally for rural hospital closures in 2020? Twenty. That’s twenty small towns that lost their largest employer and source of 24/7 ER. In a pandemic, nonetheless. 😡 @NRHA_Advocacy @ruralhealth

Going viral What if this coronavirus is the pandemic that public health people have been warning about for years? It would accelerate many pre-existing trends. - border closures - nationalism - social isolation - preppers - remote work - face masks - distrust in governments

1/7 NEJM study published today on effects of hospital acquisitions on various quality measures. We compared outcomes for hospitals acquired between 2009-2013 with outcomes for hospitals in same HRR (excluding–and separately analyzing) those within 5 miles. tinyurl.com/uv9cxm6

If there is anything better than watching a Florida game with my son and his best friend, not sure what it is.

@lpolovets Amen. Many qualities which would make someone a great operator could be detrimental to being a great VC. Ranks up there w only great players can make great coaches as stupid tropes. It’s often the mediocre players who had to learn through hard work who became the best coaches

Strongly disagree w/this. 1) Many great VCs have been operators, but many have not. 2) Experience as an operator doesn't guarantee being a good partner to other operators. A good partner is someone who is insightful, hard-working, and empathetic, regardless of their background.

Founders, if a VC has never started a company, had to make a pay roll, sold a company and/or failed/shut down a company then you should pass. That’s like going to a veterinarian for your heart surgery. Could work, but you could be barking after surgery.

Building physical things is a nice break from software that seems to never get old. We now have a proper dining room, so I made this live edge table for it out of an old growth redwood slab.
