@zaksupritam By the way, do not get too hopeful because China Eastern is going to put a dent into the traffic from here and then the flight might as well have majority D2I I2D transfers (not ideal from profitable stand point I guess). And no concrete info exists about new airlines rn.

That time when they used to hold slots, well not anymore. IndiGo already now operates the PVG route (totally forgot they used to hold slots!) and in just three days China Eastern will be returning to CCU on the Kunming route, 6 years after it last operated on March 19th, 2020.

@zaksupritam Based on some few experiences of people who took it, looks like its doing well in one direction, but I am not sure about the PVG-CCU direction. From the descriptions it seemed as if its doing even better than CAN and SAI at this point.

About CGP, it may add to the count but not to the pax capacity as such which we lag big time. Right now we have to be content with Asia only for obvious reasons, so any hopes for new intl destinations this year? Only CMB maybe, and CGP, nothing else I guess.

And literally every airline infra (the biggest ones at least), be it hangers (MRO), regional support systems, etc are all at CCU for the eastern region. And demand as well, why would they just shift to GAU for any reason? Makes zero sense whatsoever.

Maybe once please use the common sense concept, where does GAU even lie wrt CCU in the economic sense? Does GAU even generate yields similar to CCU to, let alone ME but for indirect routes to EU, US? I do not think so.

I have seen some people in the comments and some quoting it and saying GAU will replace CCU and become the hub in the East. I have never heard of a bigger joke than this in my life🤡🤡....sure maybe CCU's terminal is not beautiful and lovely compared to other but come on.

@shantanughosh No matter how bad you think about Kolkata, GAU is never going to overtake Kolkata. Kolkata still has the upper hand in the "new age" industries in this region, GAU does not. GAU is at max the leader in the Northeast.

@MridulDeepanshu @lofITechie Comparing a 2005 era design to a 2022-2023 era design is absolutely criminal by the way. And also the fact that it is a private airport, I think from that old era, Chennai got the worst terminal among every major airport. Now they have a new terminal which is way better.

@muttonmomo @somnath1978 There is not much you can do when the yields are so poor that its not even considered as a market viable for such a connection. Earlier connections were based on legacy connections till the very last. We do not have a significant "new age" industry now here to provide the yields.

@somnath1978 ZERO. The last time CCU had a direct EU flight was in the early 2010s when Lufthansa had withdrawn the lone CCU-FRA flight due to poor loads. Even in the early 2000s it had only 2-3 EU flights. Keep in mind this same airport was one of the busiest Asian hubs until the 60s.
