@ZoieNolan4 @NextGenPlayer Actually, even controller users are completely flabbergasted how bad the controls are. Controller makes things more manageable, but it's still ass. Like launch Witcher 3 bad.

@NextGenPlayer It's because the complex controls are more manageable with a controller. They're super annoying on M/K.

@JustMeMyself_95 @SolidMali @ReforgeGaming I'm good for now. My backlog is stupid currently. I'll probably get it for $30-35 during Black Friday sales. By then they should have added a handful of patches, hopefully to fix the issues with the controls that my entire feed is complaining about right now lol.

Crimson Desert on PS5 Pro. FPS is visibly very inconsistent in the first town. It was worse on the base PS5. Imagine this in a fortress or castle with 15-20 enemies to fight. Lots of NPCs just tanks performance. This is why they were selective and weird with console footage.

@JustMeMyself_95 @SolidMali @ReforgeGaming Probably not. Rumors were they pushed it back to 2028 or even 2029 because of the memory shortage. They don't want to launch a $1,000 console because they know that'd be the deathbed of early adoption and early adoption is key for a new generation.

@Rmichael___ @BrokenGamezHDR_ @the_primuspilus It's easy to say "play it for yourself" but what if you do and you go "oh shit, the reviews were right, now I'm out $70"? That's where I was with Metroid Prime 4. I didn't want to believe the reviews, but fuck they were right. Still had a good time, but not $70 good.

@Rmichael___ @BrokenGamezHDR_ @the_primuspilus And I can agree with that for the most part, but at the end of the day, games are expensive. People have no choice but to turn to reviews to see how they want to spend their money. It's why reviews exist to begin with, especially since Demos barely exist anymore.

LMAO when you tried to call out the fact that this game just looked like a buncha structureless random activities people called you a hater and contrarian. All it took to convince yall was a Jetpack, An RKO, and big ass empty map. I been gaming long enough to know.

@BrokenGamezHDR_ @the_primuspilus You calling Crimson Desert bad without playing it is like reviewing food you never tasted. At that point you’re not a critic, you’re just a loud spectator repeating what you heard about Crimson Desert.

@LukeStephens @LegacyKillaHD This statement doesn't make any sense. Those same journalist gave Elden Ring high praise and that game is exactly what you say they are against. Dude, they just don't lime the game as much as you want them to. It's going to be ok man.

@LegacyKillaHD I predicted after the preview that this is one that game journalists will loathe. There is zero hand holding and even at the preview event I witnessed several journalists from big outlets getting stuck in the tutorial puzzle for 45 plus minutes...

@DavidRavellJr @DVADigital323 Yep. And considering that past Wii and 3DS purchases can still be downloaded today and Nintendo finally has continuity in their online shops (with S1 and S2 having the same eShop) I'm going to assume this won't be an issue for at least 25-30 years or so.

@GameOrDie007 Hates? It has a 78 on MC. How is that "hating"? Lol And no, not always. Games Media was 100% spot on with their Metroid Prime 4 criticism in December. I didn't want to believe it myself, but after playing it, yeah it was a pretty mediocre experience.

@Critical_Scribe At a certain point, you're going to want that narrative pull to finish the main story. 20-40 hours main storys? Sure, whatever. But 120 hours?!

@Critical_Scribe While I agree that gameplay remains king... there is something to be said for having the pull to finish a 120 hour main story because it narratively pulls you to do so. 120 hours is a LOT and more than games like P5R which is 60% story.

This feels like a fair score. Controversially, even as a writer, I’m starting to think that we are weighing storytelling TOO much in objective scoring in video games. Unless your game is wholly about its narrative (Life is Strange, Dispatch, Firewatch, that sort of thing) then at most I will weigh the story as like 2 points out of the total 10 it can earn, if that makes any sense. Gameplay remains king in these evaluations, with performance and visuals coming in second. You can have an outstanding game with a poor story, but if your gameplay and performance suck, then most people aren’t gonna get through your story no matter how good it is. We also have to keep in mind the vision that the game was pushing for in these evaluations. How well something is hitting its goals matters a lot in objective evaluation. Given how little they talked about the story, I don’t think them telling some complex narrative was on the list. Would it have been nice? Definitely. Subjectively? Most of the time I place writing at the top, obviously. Most of my favorite games are absolutely 6/10 experiences objectively but have 10/10 narratives that keep me enthralled. In the case of Crimson Desert? I called it having a poor story the moment I saw it was made by a Korean dev. Some thought I was jumping the gun, but nah, I have enough experience with Korean writing in games (outside of their gachas, which are entirely different beasts for some reason >.>) to know what to expect. What I want out of it is a game that forces me to think and do crazy things, which I think I’ll get. I will of course reserve full judgement until I play it myself, but from the general discourse and reviews I’ve seen this feels close to what I’ll probably grade it objectively.
DayOne@PlayDay_One

A mediocre plot and bland writing can't hold back one of the most ambitious games ever made. Stunning graphics, great gameplay, and excellent music carry you through hundreds of hours of systems-based fun. It somehow lives up to all the hype, with some rough edges in tow. playday.one/2026/03/18/cri…

@JayViperTV I don't believe anyone called it slop? At least those who reviewed it. Giving a game a 6 or 7 doesn't make it slop, just that there are things it does well and things it doesn't for that specific reviewer.
