@Slimeonhersnail Hi Abby, this is great and you are doing great work! 🌹 My point is more on the logistical challenges that would ensue and the potential disenfranchisement of members if participation in a POTUS endorsement vote was contingent on in-person attendance.

@CEAraos Madison DSA is currently doing this! We're at 900 members iirc, having great in person meetings and lots of zoom attendance. Using churches is a very good way to do this. Breakout groups make deliberation easier and build connections.

There are 57 chapters with over 500 members, many of them are regional (i.e. span multiple counties). Those chapters would be hard pressed to find venues that can both: fit all of their members; and be accessible for all of their members.

@HankeyLeone Hi Leone, nice to hear from you and hope you’re well. The poll would be non-binding so an entryism’s effects would be limited also, entryism would be mitigated if it were a nationwide poll because every member’s votes would be weighed the same.

@CEAraos If there is such a poll, there should be a cutoff point beforehand so that people are not just joining DSA to vote in the poll. If convention voted to do it, then it should and must happen.

(2/2) The MUG/SOR proposal does not address how the NPC would consider the outcomes of over 200 chapter-level polls. There are numerous risks that this would entail all of which would lead to a weaker POTUS campaign and a disunited DSA.

WRT MUG/SOR’s proposed chapter polling mechanic (1/2): It both demands more resources than a mass member poll and more resources (staff, tech, NPC organizing time) than what National has available at present. Bc of these, i doubt it can be successfully implemented.

Thoughts on the POTUS Process Debate. If NPC removes the mass membership poll, it would be a direct violation of R33 ‘in which Convention mandated us to hold a ‘national referendum’ on the potential endorsement of a candidate for POTUS. This is cut-and-dry.

DSA's convention is in August 2027. Any final decision not coming until then is basically assuring that DSA would have less influence in the campaign endorsed. Every remotely viable campaign will have long been started up and built infrastructure beforehand.
