Went to Selhurst today (coming from the US) and splurged on an executive box. Who was next to us? This guy! He was awesome. Cheering, knew the chants…amazing! @holmesdaleUSA @NYEagles @CPFC_Tampa @cpfc_indy

acrobat.adobe.com/id/urn:aaid:sc… the latest @MetBPA newsletter provides a candid glimpse of life inside the UK's largest police force, from a Black police personnel perspective. These communications, devoid of spin, are so important as they help us gauge the real pace of reform.

Honoured to speak at the @MetBPA AGM in London, Waterloo today. As politics drifts right, our institutions follow — testing the resilience of Black officers already facing deep inequalities at work. @metpoliceuk #rockingtheboat

@LBC @NickFerrariLBC I recall Sector policing (community policing) being trialled in the early 90s and ever since then successive Commissioners have continually rebadged community policing with varying degrees of success. It works but is hugely resource intensive and unpopular with adrenalin junkies.

A recent report by the provincial legislature flagged 245 schools as high-risk, gripped by violence, drug abuse, bullying and gang activities. In an effort to address violence in schools, Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube, are launching the Safe Schools Protocol. #eNCA #TheSouthAfricanMorning #DStv403

@JacquiMckenzie6 Very sad to read this, condolences to Courtenay's friends and family. A pioneer, crusader and mentor. He will be sorely missed. RIP🙏🏼

In Memorium
I am saddened to learn of the passing of Dr Courtenay Griffiths KC, today, aged 69.
There are a few people I owe my career in law to and Courtenay was very much near the top of the list, such was his grace with time, advice and even some chiding.
I last saw him in July 2019 when we were both panellists at a colloqium organised by the British Foundation of the University of West Indies, at the Trinidad & Tobago High Commission, on the Windrush Scandal and Hostile Environment. Courtenay was ill then, but sharp, funny and as delightful to be with as ever. We said we'd talk more about the Windrudh scandal and how it had come to be, but sadly we never did.
Through his practice at Garden Court and 25 Bedford Row Chambers, he acted in major criminal and human rights cases, in the UK and overseas, and left an indelible mark of greatness on our profession, and on the world.
The in conversation piece with Professor Paul Gilroy at UCL, below, provides a great insight into Courtenay's work and thoughts.
Condolences to his loved ones and colleagues.

@DermotMurnaghan @susannareid100 So very sad. My brother is surviving the exact same condition and has entered his 6th year of leading a relatively normal (he still works) lifestyle. Wishing you the very best!

@AlAlbrecht269 @declassifiedUK Will you make very clear the nature of the offence committed?
English

@declassifiedUK The raiding a 'pro Palestinian' journalist’s home , lets make that very clear.

Lawyer Tayab Ali: “The actions of the police, raiding a journalist’s home under the guise of counter-terrorism, were not only unlawful but a grave threat to the democratic principle that journalists must be able to work without fear of state harassment.” solicitorsjournal.com/sjarticle/jour…

@cathynewman interview with ex-@metpoliceuk AC Neil Basu. He admits to being "ashamed" for not challenging racism. I met him in '94 at Battersea & urged him to attend our BME officers’ support group. He didn't—and I understand why. The pressure to conform remains overwhelming.
