Was honored to have moderated a panel on “Good Governance for Equitable and Sustainable Development” at the just concluded biennial #DevolutionConference2023. Having attended all the devolution conferences since 2014 and preferring to support behind the scenes, this was an opportunity to join the celebration of devolution, 10 years on, head on (literally!)!
Panelists included a keynote address by the @UNDPKenya Resident Representative @ANgororano ; Githunguri MP and Chair of the @NAssemblyKE CIOC Hon. Gathoni Wamuchomba; Homa Bay Senator and @Senate_KE PAIC Chair @senatorkajwang ; Chair of the @KenyasOmbudsman Hon. @FlorenceKajuju ; @USAIDKenya Deputy Head of Democracy and Governance Ms. Sheila Karani; @TIKenya Executive Director @SheiMasinde and @EACCKenya Commissioner John Ogallo.
Interesting panel discussion that enlightened us all on the good work that each of the entities represented were doing and how their constitutional, statutory and partnership roles were promoting governance in the counties, ensuring that citizens are enjoying their political, social and economic rights. They acknowledged that they do face a myriad of challenges as they navigate the political and institutional space.
Devolution is the most important political settlement in the Constitution and the lessons learnt from its bold implementation will provide a good baseline for making the next 10 years a huge success in deepening citizens engagement, in innovative service delivery methods, economic opportunities and ensuring socio-economic rights are enjoyed.
