❌Fear can be louder than stigma‼️ For many people living with HIV, the fear of cyberattacks or personal data leaks is enough to keep them silent; avoiding online spaces where they could otherwise find support, information, and community. Today is #InternationalWomensDay. This year's theme is 'rights, justice, action for all women and girls'. We know that women are disproportionately experiencing online harms including digital divides and technology-facilitated abuse. Our research has also found that national digital health strategies fail to account for gender. We continue to raise these concerns and advocate for the rights of all women to be upheld in the digital space. For example, we recently submitted a response to the UN Working Group on Discrimination Against Women and Girls’ regarding their upcoming thematic report on Gender Equality, the Digital Space and the Age of Artificial Intelligence.
