❌Fear can be louder than stigma‼️ For many people living with HIV, the fear of cyberattacks or personal data leaks is enough to keep them silent; avoiding online spaces where they could otherwise find support, information, and community. This “silence effect” is real. And it’s dangerous. In Vietnam, where HIV-related stigma still persists despite ongoing efforts to reduce discrimination, a powerful response is emerging. Today is #InternationalWomensDay. This year's theme is 'rights, justice, action for all women and girls'. We know that women are disproportionately experiencing online harms including digital divides and technology-facilitated abuse. Our research has also found that national digital health strategies fail to account for gender. We continue to raise these concerns and advocate for the rights of all women to be upheld in the digital space. For example, we recently submitted a response to the UN Working Group on Discrimination Against Women and Girls’ regarding their upcoming thematic report on Gender Equality, the Digital Space and the Age of Artificial Intelligence. ⁉️ America first, Africa last? Health data deals and the new scramble for pathogens. There is more to the bilateral global health agreement than what has been sold to us. For example: ✅ Health data and genomic information are becoming the new frontiers of scramble for African resources ✅ The communities whose bodies and clinics feed the databases are unlikely to hold intellectual property, share research agendas or reliably access the resulting products ✅ Race is crucial to this agreement.
