@nickshirleyy I can’t even remember what the learing thing came from anymore. Not sure that’s sticking as much as you think it is.

@clharrington024 That’s such a lovely message and reminds me of the night I went to say goodnight to my nine year old son, who I found with Half Blood Prince face down on his duvet, and who said to me solemnly, ‘why did you kill Dumbledore?’

My 6th grade daughter is reading Harry Potter, she finished the 6th book very late the other night so I was already asleep. I awoke to a post it on the kitchen counter: “Mom, Dumbledore died! I’m so sad. Love, Charlotte” This small note made my heart explode. Reading great books is magical and moving and heartbreaking. Thanks @jk_rowling for writing this world for kids to love and live in. Parents, too many kids today haven’t read all the Harry Potter books. Start reading this series with them. I promise it will be one of your most cherished memories.

The Government has published an official definition of “anti-Muslim hostility” that amounts, in effect, to a de facto blasphemy law. It is already being weaponised to silence legitimate criticism of Islam. Within 45 minutes of the Communities Secretary announcing the definition, pro-Gaza independent MP Iqbal Mohamed asked whether it could be incorporated into the Seven Principles of Public Life — the standards expected of public office holders, including MPs. In effect, he was asking whether MPs could be sanctioned for comments made in Parliament deemed to constitute “anti-Muslim hostility”. When Shadow Justice Secretary @NJ_Timothy criticised a mass Muslim prayer event in Trafalgar Square, Labour MPs reported him to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, branded him an “Islamophobe”, and the Prime Minister even demanded his resignation. In a free society, no religion should be placed above others or afforded special protection from legitimate criticism. The Free Speech Union is taking on the Government in one of the biggest — and most important — fights in our six-year history. We’re calling on the Communities Secretary to scrap this attempt to reintroduce an Islamic blasphemy law via the back door. If you can, please do donate to our crowdfunder👇

@GoodwinMJ Reform might win. They will improve things but they do not have the stomach for the radical change needed. Reform’s time in office will shift the Overton window further to the right and it will become obvious what needs to be done. Restore will win in the 2030s.

Reform UK are standing in 99.9% of wards. The Monster Raving Loonies are standing in 0.4% of wards. And … someone called Restore are standing in 0.3% of wards. Britain does not have time for anything other than a serious alternative. Vote Reform, Get Starmer Out.

@michaelshermer How quickly we forget. This literally did not exist five years ago. The fact that there are still some kinks to work out is no comfort at all. We are always blind because we struggle to look backwards and we don’t allow ourselves to extrapolate forward.

Took the wife and kids to see Project Hail Mary. We all really enjoyed it. Its greatest achievement is that it’s an actual family movie. Not too babyish for adults and not too grown up for the kids. Reminds me of the PG movies they used to make all the time in the 80s and 90s. Very much a spiritual descendent of ET. Maybe Hollywood will take the hint and start making real family films again. It also kind of reminded me of Ad Astra, which is a massively underrated masterpiece. A slower film, more adult oriented and contemplative. That and Arrival are the best space/alien movies of the past 15 years. Project Hail Mary is probably in the top 5. I’d rank it higher than Interstellar.
