@moog77 This is a complete misinterpretation...and lack of understanding of the confounding factors. Perfect correlation would mean that every absence would be down to sars cov 2. Which it will never be because kids are absent for several reasons.

The study does show that CO2 levels correlate with external temp. Such that when it is hotter outside the CO2 is generally lower. Similar findings have been observed before - in hotter weather ppl more likely to open windows to increase ventilation 5/n

A new report on Austrian schools which measured classroom ventilation across 1200 classes in 120 schools found no correlation with absenteeism. more details below (although authors claim a moderate linear correlation as the r=0.521; where r=1 is perfect correlation ) 1/n

@moog77 This is based on a numerical model by the @maxplanckpress institute. Of course, this is based on (validated) assumptions and on an infected person in the room. What is important here is not the absolute risk but the relative risk from one room to the other.

@CHopfe In a 30 person UK classroom, if it were ventilated at 300l/s there would be a 60% infection risk of SARS-CoV-2? Even at the height of the pandemic I don't recall there being such high infection rates, and often they aren't ventilated at 10lsp. Seems unlikely to me

1,200 classrooms in Austria were monitored to analyze their indoor air quality. As in many countries, 75% of the classrooms have poor air renewal. The study conducted by @tugraz represents a huge amount of work, we strongly recommend reading the report tugraz.at/en/tu-graz/ser…

The average Australian spends about 90% of their time indoors. While indoor air quality is considered a serious risk to public health worldwide, many countries—including Australia—do not have indoor air quality standards.   ...

Nice to receive some positive feedback... School director in one of our 120 #impAQS project schools thanked us saying she wasn't "aware how fast air quality can worsen in classrooms and how important regular ventilation is" @tugraz #ibpsc @igoe_at #BMBWF @PassivhausPlus
