I've a question about @substack. When I'm trying to write a post, it says "working offline" so I can't post. How do you solve this? The AI support gives loads of suggestions, all of which are useless.
@michaelphe14501 Scott's point is that capital equipment facilitates learning by doing: you need to have some kit to do stuff with, ideally (but not necessarily) newish.
@worstall That's not what I said, nor is it in Richard II: he is killed only after being deposed, & is the only person Bolingbroke kills (on stage). One message from Shakespeare in that you can't merely kill your way to power: see eg Macbeth, Hamlet, or Richard III.
Blogged: there are two political agendas - one on how to improve the real world and another dealing in fantasies and crank issues, and the latter is dominant: stumblingandmumbling.typepad.com/stumbling_and_…
Musk has dominated UK politics without (AFAIK) spending a cent. Which proves Smith words: there's a "disposition to admire, and almost to worship, the rich and the powerful". The problem is, this disposition is incompatible with any worthwhile conception of democracy.
@SimonMagus Depends on the conflict between ideology & incentives. Looking at ideology, Labour is doomed & the populist right will be nutters. If, however, Labour responds to the incentive to get re-elected, it'll do whatever's necessary to improve growth & public services.
@SimonMagus Except that the centre left has a huge parliamentary majority. But yes, it too seems unable to grasp the need for radical measures to boost economic growth - a failure which might well destroy its support in 2029.
With higher gilt yields fuelling talk of the need for tighter fiscal policy, here's one I wrote earlier on how fiscal conservatism is in theory compatible with radical economic policy elsewhere: stumblingandmumbling.typepad.com/stumbling_and_…
Blogged: the question is not just: "what should the government do?" It is rather: "how can we create pressures that force governments into positive change?" stumblingandmumbling.typepad.com/stumbling_and_…
