@hnhypnotoad @princessxemnas I agree and the show covers that concept when the gang is in the fire nation. Iroh is just an interesting character because he went from a true believer who (presumably) did horrible things and then achieved more or less enlightenment.

I think a takeaway of his character is that good people and bad people are found on every side. There were good people in the Fire Nation, even though it was the villain of the show. Just like how Ba Sing Se was filled with a lot of pretty fucked up people even though the Earth Kingdom was against the Fire Nation.
