J. R. Smith says depression led to his smoking addiction: “I don’t trust therapists” “I'm addicted to smoking because of a lot of the depression and pain that I feel, and I don't know how to get out and express it” “I've been to therapy. I don't trust therapists because a lot of them tell you what you want to hear. I've been around enough people to kiss my ass. I don't need that” “I can stop drinking. I'm not a drinker. I've never really been.I'm really trying to understand the smoking because it's definitely an addiction” “I smoke milds. I smoke weed. Shit, when I was playing in China and couldn't get weed, I was smoking cigarettes in the locker room. I'm a smoker”

Many people didn't understand why we called the creation of the "Best Latin Song" category at the GRAMMYs historic, so here's an explanation: It's obvious that creating separate categories for Latin music also reflects the industry's long history of separating artists who do not perform in English from the major categories. Across more than 60 years of GRAMMY history, only two Spanish-language albums have been nominated for Album of the Year. In other words, this segregation has already existed for decades. The reasons behind the creation of this category can be debated and involve discussions about representation, cultural bias, and the Academy's historical reluctance to recognize artists recording in languages other than English in the General Field. Even so, this change represents an important step forward. To this day, the GRAMMYs have never awarded a Spanish-language song in one of their major categories. Even some of the biggest Latin artists have not received the same level of recognition as English-language artists. Bad Bunny, for example, had only one song nominated in a genre category, with "Moscow Mule" in the Pop Field. With the creation of "Best Latin Song," more Latin songwriters and performers will now have the opportunity to be recognized for their work. Perhaps not in the way they truly deserve yet, but it is still progress. The GRAMMYs can no longer ignore Latin music the way they did for years, and this formal recognition opens new doors for artists who sing in Spanish and other languages. We consider this historic because the GRAMMYs have never awarded a Spanish-language song before. Only albums had received that level of recognition. The creation of this category is a milestone and could help expand the presence of Latin music within the Academy, creating more opportunities for our artists in the years ahead. Thank you.
