⚠️ DOG ABUSER SUSPENDED SENTENCE CONVICTED | Kearon James Hood, 25, from Evercreech, Shepton Mallet BA4 (formerly of Chard and originally from Minehead), subjected two dogs to distressing treatment. Hood, son of notorious dog hoarders James and Nicola Hood, pleaded guilty to multiple animal welfare offences involving a boxer named Peter and a husky called Nova, following an RSPCA investigation. A witness reported seeing Hood dragging Peter by the collar, causing the dog to urinate out of fear. Noise recordings from his home revealed crashing noises, prolonged banging, yelping, and alarm barks consistent with a distressed animal. A vet noted this could cause bruising, soft tissue damage, or fear-based behavioural issues. Further complaints led to Nova being seized after Hood was witnessed slapping and punching the dog, causing it to yelp and cower in fear. In court, Hood admitted taking out his frustration on the dog due to financial pressures after stopping work as a scaffolder following the birth of his second child. RSPCA Inspector Jo Daniel said intentionally causing fear through aggressive actions is unacceptable and that punching/slapping a dog is a criminal offence. Nova has been signed over to the RSPCA West Hatch Animal Centre for rehoming. Peter had already been rehomed by Hood and was later located with his welfare confirmed. Sentencing: 200 hours unpaid work, 25 days rehabilitation; £400 costs and £114 victim surcharge. Banned from keeping animals for 7 years (no appeal for 5 years). Source UKACF.
