@mathsjem Hope you don’t mind me asking. How do you support your very bottom end (KS1 level) in y7-9? Is there any kind of additional support or nurture group or do you support as best you can within those 7 groups?

@CMaths3 At KS3 we have 7 tutor groups & 7 maths classes. We make our top & middle sets big to make our bottom sets as small as possible but they’re still too big. We need another maths set but we don’t have capacity in staff budget. At KS4 things are better: 7 tutor groups, 8 classes.

I’m really interested in knowing how many maths groups you have in a year compared to tutor groups. E.g. in a year with 4 tutor groups do you have 4 maths groups or 5? Does it depend on the year group? Please RT @mathsjem @mrbartonmaths @Just_Maths

I’d love to hear from heads of maths who offer GCSE statistics. How many lessons week do you get, when students sit it, is it its own option block etc?

@SmithJulie28515 Is that over 2 years? Does that feel enough time? What is uptake like? Thanks!

@RachelRenshaw3 @mathsjem Thank you! Is the plan they’ll sit the GCSE at the end of year 10 or year 11?

@CMaths3 @mathsjem My school has just started to offer in Year 10 as an option. One class with a range of abilities (so entries at foundation and higher).

@mathsjem Thank you! Have read earlier and listened back to your podcast with Craig too. Am I right the only students who do it at your school are those doing the AQA further maths course as well?

This isn't to say it can't be done well. Our maths dept uses it excellently, but as a part of a sophisticated and coherent approach to group work and peer to peer accountability. They've spent hours thinking about and codifying their approach.

Turn and Talk is very popular right now, I see it in most lessons I go to. HOWEVER, in 95% of cases I watch it and think "that lesson would have been better without it to be honest" Why? 👇

Distributive property with Y7. I really like how this exercise includes a few that don’t follow the same rule!
