When you hear stories like this - and there are many - it becomes harder and harder to take the “China national security threat” narrative seriously.
This should have been Trudeau’s epiphany moment. Instead, he still talks about how fortunate it was that Canada didn’t build closer ties with China, because it's a country that supposedly doesn’t share the same values.
Herein lies the real purpose of the endless atrocity propaganda against Beijing: it keeps countries like Canada locked in their abusive relationship with their "greatest ally" while rejecting the very relationship that would have been in their national interest.
Much of the atrocity propaganda against China is funded by the very same power that nearly abused Canada into exploring an expanded relationship with China, and for the most part, it works.
When they put an end to Indonesia's aviation industry, they were a bit more direct about it though, and they actually succeeded.

This is what I find so disingenuous about ppl like herb who claims to be against the CCP on the behalf of the poor oppressed Chinese people: there are plenty of oppressed ppls in the world but they fixate on China because China is doing so well.
One gets the feeling that if China was a shithole with no chance of catching up with the US they would find something else to do with their lives.

I agree in a sense that had the Qing modernized and industrialized they probably use the British Empire as the model. And when the Qing inevitably get toppled, China would end up as an East Asian India.

Manchus feared industrialization would lead Han people seizing power, a fear even greater than CN being a West colony. They knew even if CN were colonized, they could act as a proxy, but if the Han gained power, they would be purged. So they actually suppress industrialization.

A crazier link than many know. Hashem was assassinated by Hizballah before Israeli pullout, he was big on retaining the SLA/their autonomous zone post Israeli withdrawal/was to succeed Lahad. Some ex-SLA have theorized Israel let Hizballah kill Hashem to allow for easier pullout.
