As a founder of Midato Health, a digital health startup with a SaaS solution for scalable consent mgmt., I spend a lot of time thinking about the benefits and risks of sharing—and of not sharing—sensitive data collected throughout our lives in our medical records. For people with complex health and social needs, this data can be highly useful for informed care, and can also have devastating consequences when released without consent or when the consent is so broadly applied that an individual’s actual agency is an illusion. More granular choices are needed but some can be offered now and confidentiality can be applied in accordance to a person’s needs and wishes.
