@yuval_beery @EftstratiosG The non-A1B vehicle origin is unknown. Only the A1B is known to have been obtained from Iran.

The M109A1B codenamed by the Soviets as "Product 39" to hide the acquisition of this trophy vehicle. It was captured from the Iranian forces by Iraqi forces. The M109A1B was trialled from 1984 up until 1985.

Prototype BMP-1 with a gas turbine engine. Sadly, unknown which GTD variant this is. Some sources state it to be a GTD-3, while others claim it to be a GTD-700. Would have been interesting to see a BMP-1 with a 50hp/t power to weight ratio. #Tanks

crib-blog.blogspot.com/2026/04/bmp-1-… BMP-1 with prototype side skirts. The goal was to reduce radar detection by installing louvre-style panels to attenuate and scatter waves. Additionally, such panels could also be used to lower thermal radiation on vehicles. #Tanks

Imagine you work for the Soviet military industrial complex in Leningrad, 1978. The newest Vestnik lands on your table, and you get hit with the 'A-7701' VNIITransmash GTD cyclone array promotional material.

crib-blog.blogspot.com/2026/03/two-st… Article covering a proposed two-stage cyclone filter array for T-80 gas turbine engines. Combining the functionality of a gas turbine system and diesel engine mesh filters to improve air purification ratios to near 99.9% effectiveness. #Tanks

After a brief 86-day break, I present a short article on the use of specialised testing equipment used by the Russian military to test armoured fighting vehicles and how recoil shock impulses affect crew ergonomics and safety. crib-blog.blogspot.com/2025/11/testin…

T-72/T-90 to BMPT conversion kit. The modernisation consists of removing the original turret, fitting an adapter ring and a lower turret protection ring, which protects the lower half of the turret. Patent: RU2846945 #tanks

@Volke__ The images make it obvious they aren't rubber flaps, since there is no sag, and they have bolts going through the layered plates to keep the internal plates in a fixed position.

Not so long ago BMP-3s with Karkas-II ERA were spotted in use, but what was not paid attention to as much were the previously rubber plates on the turret ERA, well as it turns out these are no rubber mats/plates, they are in fact NERA plates meant for addon protection.
