After flunking their French test, Canada's party of the left, the @NDP will save itself from irrelevance by becoming polished in an important electoral dialect: Canadian Tire English. The NDP has become a party preoccupied with the upper registers of Maslow's hierarchy of needs. At the esteem level: a politics of performative environmentalism, net-zero moralism, the treatment of energy transition as collective virtue rather than a seirous engineering problem. At the level of self-actualization: a politics more concerned with who you are than what you have, with inner recognition rather than material conditions, with the state ratifying your identity than building the infrastructure that makes higher order human needs fulfillable. To be fair, the NDP still wants pharmacare, dental care, childcare. They haven't abandoned core elements at the base of Maslow's pyramid. But they've stopped thinking seriously about what holds the base up. You can't have a redistributive state without a tax base, and you can't have a tax base without energy, industry, resource extraction, manufacturing. The unglamorous work of making things and moving them. They want the fruits of the productive economy while regarding the productive economy with either indifference or at times even contempt. To use the words of abolitionist Frederick Douglass "They want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters" A party that once represented farmers and industrial workers now floats free of that foundation, absorbed in the politics of identity trying to find its salvation by pretending to speak a language that it no longer understands.
The Rundown@therundowntvo

Is language part of the federal NDP’s problem? As members choose a new leader, the party is wrestling with how it talks to voters, — and how it rebuilds after historic losses. Tonight at 11pm with @lobbygrl (@wrightstrat), @LukewSavage, and @JeyanTVO | Producer: @ebombicino

I once dated a guy whose parents were in this category, and the most interesting thing was that it seemed to be a general issue with information uptake/comprehension. I once watched the news with them and after the segment ended one of them proceeded to recount the main story with a majority of the facts wrong. it was something like "a van drove through a crowd on Monday injuring 2 and the driver was arrested" and he was saying things like "a van drove through a crowd last night and killed a guy and they don't know who did it." it was pretty surreal.

If you have the basic skills to participate in the discourse at all — like you can read and comprehend a New York Times article in order to complain about it — you’re in a weird, out of touch, elite bubble. slowboring.com/p/in-defense-o…

@datingbyblaine Really gives off Small D Energy, true or not. Actually... how to matchmakers account for that physical attribute? Surely it's a real factor in your work.

Consultation call with potential matchmaking client in SF. He’s 37, 5’10, tech CEO. I ask about his hobbies. He takes too long to answer, then finally says “surfing?” I’m suspicious, and ask about his favorite beaches. He admits he surfed once, 18 months ago. We’re punting on matchmaking until he’s completed a plan to make his personal life less boring 😌

He was a recruiter. For 3 months. jesus. just put a wrapper around it, it’s done.
Rich@richzou

I just left @xai It was not an easy decision. The past three months were an absolute blast - I've been in many trenches in my life and can say this was by far one of the most intense warzones. I love fighting. Especially being in the trenches with my friends, working on problems that will actually advance humanity. But the current environment wasn't serving my growth. And that's a really hard thing to admit - I've always looked up to Elon, and I genuinely believe xAI will win. I still do. One thing I'll say: don't stay somewhere just because of the name. If you're unhappy, and you know you can't grow 100x where you are - it's the right call to leave. What's next? Get some sleep back. Then find the next trench worth fighting in. I'll always be meeting exceptional people - that was never because of a recruiting title. I just love finding smart people and helping however I can. Many more side quests to come!!!

An eye popping Rubellite exploration well has many in the basin shocked. Out of nowhere, this Clearwater company has drilled a short 6 leg sweeper Sparky multilateral that is nearly 300 bbl/d oil All eyes on the road construction and pool development later this year. $RBY

@RoryMaw @RenewableUKCEO @spectator The project of harmonizing a global price for gas is underway, but unlikely to ever be complete. The same is roughly true for oil and gas liquids, but their stability at atmospheric T&P makes it much easier to trade. Gas will almost certainly remain regionalized.

There. Is. No. Global. Price. For. Gas. How often do you need to be told this? What’s the Henry Hub price today? What’s the UK price today? Are they the same … or even close? Let me tell you, for April 2026 contracts. Henry Hub, right now: $2.87/MMBtu UK NBP right now: $16.79/MMBtu So UK prices are 5.8x US prices. I don’t like calling people liars but you must know this, so what else is there to say?

Why wind power isn't “woke”, my piece in today's @spectator. The North Sea matters but won’t cut bills - we pay the global price for gas. Fracking is unpopular and wouldn’t change that. SMRs are promising but distant. Wind is the practical, affordable option to build right now. spectator.com/article/wind-p…
