True story: I decided to pursue a career in public service because of a high school book report on the Kennedy brothers.  I talked about my journey with a room full of young Connecticut leaders at Boys and Girls State and urged them to stick with serving others. Bonus was getting to meet Daniella from East Lyme and Ned from Ridgefield who were both elected to be State Comptroller.

Wage theft is a real issue and a real problem on job sites.    If a contractor getting state funding to build something shorts their workers, a new law I introduced allows our office to stop those payments until the workers get paid what they deserve.

Healthcare costs are out of control, premium increases are through the roof, and cities and towns are having a really hard time finding quality, affordable insurance coverage for employees. Amid this chaos, the Partnership Plan remains the most stable, comprehensive option for municipalities. Our increased enrollment affirms this, and we are eager to welcome new and returning groups as the Partnership Plan continues to grow.

When I was a kid, my mom couldn’t afford to send me to summer camp. Last week, Mayor Arulampalam and I welcomed hundreds of Hartford kids to @CampCourant. This place has been operating for more than 130 years because it's built on a simple idea: every child deserves a safe place to learn, play, and just be a kid during the summer.   No kid should be priced out of that experience.

Happy Birthday, America! Let us never stop working to perfect this experiment and defend the ideals that this great country was founded upon 250 years ago today.

After receiving an anonymous whistleblower complaint, my office recently launched an investigation into their handling of their employee retirement accounts. That will continue. And I hope other state agencies will continue or launch investigations into this school to ensure students and workers were properly treated and, if not, that those responsible can be held accountable.

110 ordinary citizens from all walks of life and from all over Connecticut were just randomly chosen (via the CT Lottery!) to be part of our upcoming Citizens Assembly. So excited to get to work with them on fixing our broken property tax system!

@CTComptroller Maybe stop pushing unfunded mandates on Connecticut towns, such as payouts for education that are paid by Hartford for the first year, but that money needs to be replicated every year after as state law days they can have an education budget lower than the previous year.

@CTComptroller @MomTerminator @CCMAdvocacy Well, you had better correct Google search in Grok because they have you voting in favor of both HB1501 and Special Session Public Act 15–1 both of which raised taxes in Connecticut in 2015 $859 million dollars. Are they Wrong?

Citizens Assemblies are not about doing the job of politicians - it's about showing politicians who are often dug into positions, afraid of failure or view issues through the lens of echo chambers like the capitol or this website that there IS a way forward on a tough issue that a group representative of the broader population can agree upon and therefore they can too if they actually try.

Kinda random, but maybe Hawai’i and Connecticut isn’t like comparing apples to pineapples. Last week, Hawai’i became the second state after Rhode Island to join our growing retirement savings alliance. More states joining = lower investment fees for CT savers and more people across the US who have access to a secure retirement after a lifetime of hard work. Total win win.

The tax is taken out until you max out on SS taxes. @CTComptroller is there an annual report of revenue in vs payments? Amount of people using the benefit? Are there safeguards against people using the benefit past it's amount of days?

@CraigFishbein This article fails to include the PFML payroll tax of 0.5% on the first $135k of income—another massive Lamont tax hike. Net-net, he raised taxes by hundreds of millions of dollars on CT residents.

No one should be in debt because they got sick, and I know what it's like because I grew up in a family that had to pay off medical bills. But thanks to a program @GovNedLamont started in 2024, CT is leading the nation in cancelling medical debt. In two years, the program has slashed $500 million of debt for 252,000 people. That's really incredible and life-changing for people, and I'm proud to live in a state that's doing this. A new round is just starting, so if you get a letter from Undue Medical Debt with the state seal on in the next few weeks, it's legit - don't throw it out!

The year before I became Comptroller, our spending on weight loss drugs rose by 50%. I put a new policy in place that has cut the cost trend, improved health outcomes for those taking the drugs, and saved taxpayers $29 million.

When I’m around the state talking to business owners, the first things to come up are healthcare and energy costs. But it’s also important to hear about the other issues—permitting, hiring, and more—impacting individual businesses. I’m working every day on solutions to the obstacles Connecticut businesses face and appreciate the Madison Chamber for a great conversation.
