Religion & Ethics @ UofVirginia. Seven days, not one in seven. Each thing is what it is, not another thing. Aspiring to be more of a question than a comment.

The longer I live, the clearer it becomes to me that people will have a religion, or something that plays the role in their lives played by religion in the lives of people of faith. The only question is what religion (or pseudo-religion) they will have, and whether it will be a good one or a bad one--one that upholds human dignity and teaches genuine virtue, or one that does not.

This National Review article runs through a litany of errors in Jill Lepore's Pultizer-winning history of the Constitution. Every history has its goofs (believe me, I know!). But do they matter? "Every lion has fleas. The question is, is there a lion under all the fleas?"

@amywelborn2 In the end, there's no lock on the jail cell door--they could walk out. But they're their own prison. Very Dantean, imho!

Lot of hate for this, but my take has always been - from the minute it ended - that it was basically "No Exit." That is, these selfish people were being judged for their self-absorption and were being condemned to live with the consequences...forever. "Haven't we had this conversation before?" I always thought it was brilliant and the most fitting end to the "show about nothing"

I still remember my graduation speaker, Georgetown University 1991. It was John Guare, playwright & author of "House of Blue Leaves" and "Six Degrees of Separation," I only knew him because my friends had performed House of Blue Leaves in the drama club. He was great. Loved him.

I had a great conversation with Mark Oppenheimer on the ARC podcast, mainly talking about my experience on the religious right eons ago, and how that informs the way I look at politics today. Take a listen. (Link below.)
