Two rare photographs of Bobby Fischer that I've discovered in a San Antonio archive, taken during his visit at the great San Antonio tournament in November/December 1972.

Captain William Evans was born on this day in 1790. The most impactful sailor in history of chess, he invented the Gambit and used it to beat several leading masters of early 19th century. Later championed by Kasparov and other top players, Evans Gambit is still a moveable feast.

@GothamChess Fun fact: The highest prize fund for a chess match of all time? The Fischer - Spassky REMATCH in 1992, $5 million USD.

Today, Magnus Carlsen said that unless Firouzja wins the next Candidates, he may not play a World Championship match again. Maybe it's because the prize money has been the same for 30 years? What if the winner got $5-10m, would he continue? 😂

From my dad's game. White threatens Re7+, leading to mate and Kxh4. How should you defend?

White resigned instead of reaching this position. Can you find the win for Black? Bonus points if you can identify the famous game.

Listening to Harry Belafonte records on original vinyl while my son and I play chess, his latest obsession. This is pretty much the version of fatherhood I always dreamed of.

@SrslySirius @HiltonHart Fair criticism and part of it is vanity, but I sincerely believe that when you give your kid a tough name it gives them some hardship that is very useful in life. I know a lot of really successful people with strange names, famous and not.

Twitter, I need your help. My wife is 3 months pregnant with a baby boy and we need a name. My criteria: - Unusual, funny, and/or a little absurd eg Molson or @HiltonHart - Can't be abbreviated eg Budweiser is out because of "Bud" - Classy without being arrogant

Want to stream the $10k "WSOP Main Event" next Sunday with hole cards. Since my gambling addiction/ADD is far too high to just 1 table a $10k, was thinking I might play some slower chess + zoom on the side . Who wants to play and chat poker + chess? Open to other ideas too!
