Today marks ten years since four Dallas police officers—Sgt. Michael Smith, Sr. Cpl. Lorne Ahrens, Officer Michael Krol, Officer Patrick Zamarripa—and DART police officer Brent Thompson were tragically killed in the line of duty. While this senseless act of hatred shocked Dallas, our city’s response showed that we are not defined by tragedy. We are defined by our people, our communities, and our love for each other. Ten years later, we still remember the service of these five heroes and honor their sacrifice for the people of Dallas.

This marks the fifth year of my summer employment program that gives youth the opportunity to build new skills, gain meaningful experience, and take important steps toward a successful future—all while strengthening Dallas's economy. And here at the @CityOfDallas, we have interns gaining firsthand experience in local government and helping deliver the services Dallas residents depend on every day.

Another major investment in Dallas's urban core is taking shape. This morning, we announced that construction is moving forward for @KlydeWarrenPark's nearly 2-acre expansion! This exciting addition will include a new venue and more green space while driving economic growth, connecting communities, and enhancing the quality of life that makes Dallas a destination city. It's exactly the kind of transformative investment we must continue to make in our urban core.

This weekend, I had several great discussions at @AspenIdeas with city leaders from across the country. We tackled everything from public safety and economic growth to the role of A.I. in municipal government. I appreciated the opportunity to join fellow mayors to discuss how to address the challenges of today while creating opportunities for tomorrow. As blessed as I am to serve Dallas as its mayor, the role I cherish most is being a dad to my three incredible children.
