Let's be clear about something: mainstream media has never been conservative-friendly. Not today, not 10 years ago, not 30 years ago when I started in this business. That's not new information. And it certainly didn't stop conservatives from forming government repeatedly when we earned it. So no, media attacks are not proof of relevance. They're background noise we've always operated in. More importantly conservatism in Canada is alive and well. But let's actually define what that means, because it gets thrown around too loosely. True conservatism is fiscal responsibility: balanced budgets, lower taxes, getting government out of the way of people who want to build, invest, and succeed. It's personal responsibility over state dependency. It's law and order the belief that safe communities are the foundation of a free society. It's a principled foreign policy grounded in national interest, strong alliances, and a belief that Canada must carry its weight in the world. It's respect for institutions, for the constitution, for the rule of law. It's defending individual freedoms against an ever-expanding state. These ideas resonate deeply with millions of Canadians urban and rural, new and old, French and English. The question was never whether conservatism has a future in Canada. It absolutely does. The question is whether we are articulating it clearly, honestly, and compellingly enough to win the trust of those Canadians. And to do that, we must always question ourselves. A movement that confuses media hostility with political momentum, that mistakes noise for strength, is a movement headed for complacency. We've seen where that leads. We never rest on our laurels. That's what real conservatives do.
