I was on the subway in NYC. Rush hour. A young guy in a cheap, ill-fitting suit was trying to tie a tie. He was sweating, looking at a YouTube tutorial on his phone, failing miserably. People were staring. Snickering. An older man, looked like Wall Street—expensive coat, briefcase—stood up. The car went silent. I thought he was going to yell at the kid for blocking the aisle. Instead, the older man tapped the kid’s shoulder. "Job interview?" The kid nodded, terrified. "Yes, sir." "Step here." The older man put down his briefcase. He undid the kid’s knot. Smoothly, efficiently, he tied a perfect Windsor knot. He fixed the kid’s collar. Brushed some lint off his shoulder. "Look them in the eye," the man said. "Firm handshake. You got this." The doors opened. The kid walked out looking like a CEO. We’re all just trying to make it. Help someone adjust their armor.
