The user is not like you. If you are a dev building dev tools, the user is still not like you. If you are a former customer pivoting into product, the user is still not like you. If you are a designer who has "built empathy", the user is definitely not like you.

@johncutlefish Managed SaaS. There’s tons of data sharing use cases where parties can share data/private functions w/out having to send data over the wire. Particularly interesting for privacy/security conscious orgs. Haven’t even scratched the surface of possibilities. snowflake.com/en/data-cloud/…

Today we’re launching a significantly improved SCA experience in Europe—delegated authentication. Customers can now authenticate their purchases with biometric methods like Touch ID or Face ID without being redirected to their banking apps. 🔐 stripe.com/newsroom/news/…

I'm sure you've all heard the news about @fast by now I joined 2 years ago as founding designer and helped scale the design team to ~20 people across product, brand, and research A lot of extremely talented designers just became available for work. If you're hiring, DM me!

Start-ups fail for many reasons, of which Fast obviously was not immune But decisions made that lead to this outcome which I take responsibility for But one thing I am 100% certain that we did right was hire truly incredible people 👇

Sort of telling that SSO keeps coming up as a potential killer web3 app; it’s maybe the least promising use of blockchains you could come up with.

This is a great move by @doordash. And if you are making $400K a year as an engineer and think you're too good to make a dash, you should find another career. The only way we can build good software is to empathize with our users. You should have been doing this all along.

DoorDash, the food delivery app based out of San Francisco, is requiring all its nondelivery employees, including CEO Tony Xu, to do a “dash” once a month — and some employees are seemingly furious. sfgate.com/tech/article/D…

Credit bureau Experian just fixed a weakness w/ a partner website that let anyone look up the credit score of tens of millions of Americans just by supplying their name & mailing address. The guy who found it is worried Experian's fix doesn't go far enough krebsonsecurity.com/2021/04/experi…

👌 thread. Details matter

@shreyas @johncrimmins_ My first few years at Netflix I got emails entitled "minor" from Reed Hastings, the CEO of the company. In my first year, I probably got 40 of them. Three years later, probably 10. They were things like typos in the FAQs-- detailed stuff.

I was reading a few S-1s and came to the conclusion that startup pitch decks should structured more like S-1 memos with a clear problem statement, market size and value proposition in written form. Way better than wasting time making slides that only tell half the story. 📖

@jillruthcarlson I also don’t think they ever tested the one-click concept with users. It’s kind of a terrible checkout experience. I tried it a couple of months back and inadvertently bought 8 hoodies

Real question: I can’t figure out the benefit of Fast over Apple Pay (for consumers or for merchants)? Is it just that it’s platform agnostic? How much does that really matter?

@mrsharma @fast This might be the most terrifying part... “36 seconds until we automatically log you in” Hope that’s just a weird way of saying they renewed the user’s session?

Lack of modern crypto support from the major cloud KMS/HSM providers is subtly a big part of why enterprises default to JWTs with NIST approved crypto. YubiHSM is one of a few that supports this, but managing HSM hardware or rolling own KMS is a non-starter for 99% of companies
Filippo Valsorda @filippo.abyssdomain.expert@FiloSottile

Should I make a safe API for a JWT subset and put it in x/crypto? It would be declaring defeat, and engaging in harm reduction for my users while throwing the rest of the ecosystem under the bus.

+1000 to this thread. Removing PII from header files is a huge data security opportunity for bureaus and fin services writ large. I’d argue a step further - OIDC or OAuth style data sharing flows would completely fix the flaws inherent in “search-match” identity resolution.

1/ Why do *truly great* engineering/product teams from bigger tech companies often fail? One reason: they fail at sequencing product investment for 0-1 startups. Thread👇
