S&P Global is paying attention to DeFi vaults. Key takeaways from its latest primer: • Vaults are becoming the on-chain equivalent of managed funds. • They improve operational efficiency but introduce new risk considerations. • While crypto-native today, they're poised to become *core infrastructure* for tokenized real-world assets and institutional capital.

🚨NEW: We sat down with @TomZschach, former CIO at @swiftcommunity, to discuss why the "we're replacing SWIFT" narrative was always flawed and why the real bottleneck to tokenization isn't settlement. It's trust. After helping lead SWIFT's digital asset strategy, Tom is now building a new venture focused on what he believes is the industry's biggest unsolved problem: how regulated financial institutions accept and validate tokenized assets at scale. After 20 years in traditional finance, I am going all in on decentralised AI. The AI race will shape far more than markets. It will decide who controls access to intelligence, how knowledge is produced and where power ultimately sits. So @ArtiomS and I created @xTensorCapital and @xTensorLabs. AI cannot be built entirely on infrastructure controlled by a handful of companies. We are backing the parallel path. The thesis is simple: decentralised AI remains underinvested, undervalued and widely misunderstood. It is early, technically difficult and easy to dismiss. That is exactly where asymmetry lives. xTensor Capital invests. xTensor Labs builds and operates. Each makes the other sharper. Much more to come on what we are building, learning and backing. Stay tuned!

The death of so much of the tech media has allowed an outbreak of scams that will turn into an epidemic Here's how: 1) Very few media outlets can afford teams of serious human - let alone investigative - reporters 2) X% of projects will exaggerate or lie if it serves their interests + they think they can get away with it 3) They start to realize they can get away with it

Exactly two years ago today, we announced that Circle had become the first major global stablecoin issuer to achieve MiCA compliance 🇪🇺 Today, every national transition deadline has passed. MiCA is now fully in force for both stablecoin issuers and crypto-asset service providers. No exceptions, no extensions. The numbers tell the story so far: ~20 MiCA-compliant e-money token issuers. > 200 compliant CASPs. And of the top 50 stablecoins by market cap, only 3 are MiCA-compliant. Two of them issued by @circle France - USDC & EURC, the largest regulated USD and EUR tokens under MICA. We did the hard work early and it was worth it. EURC has grown ~10x in two years and now holds ~50% of the euro stablecoin market. USDC remains the only globally relevant USD e-money token in the EU, powering cross-border payments, crypto capital markets, and more. As of today, MICA rules are a reality you cannot ignore. The EU has ~450M consumers. You comply, or you're out of one of the largest economic markets in the world. It's that simple. And an incredibly complex effort to replicate. The work is of course never over. The MICA review is already on the horizon. But worth celebrating this milestone in light of today's deadline.
Patrick Hansen@paddi_hansen

𝐁𝐢𝐠 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬: @circle 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐢𝐧 𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐂𝐀 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 🇫🇷 🇪🇺 I am proud to share that we have received our authorization as an e-money institution (EMI) from the French prudential regulator ACPR. This EMI license enables us to issue both EURC and USDC through our regulated French entity in a MiCA-compliant way. Starting today, EU customers can open Circle Mint Accounts with Circle France, allowing them to directly access and redeem USDC and EURC in a MiCA-compliant manner, utilizing common EU payment systems like SEPA and SEPA Instant. This marks a significant milestone for Circle and also for me personally. The European crypto market is set for a major transformation this year, with non-compliant stablecoins ultimately disappearing from EU exchanges and crypto-asset service providers. We view this as a tremendous opportunity for the growth of EURC and USDC in the region and are doubling down on our efforts in the EU. 𝐀𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐩 50 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐛𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐔𝐒𝐃𝐂 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐔𝐑𝐂 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐂𝐀-𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐭. Today's milestone undoubtedly represents the largest project, challenge, and success I have been working on so far. I joined Circle less than two years ago, when EURC had just launched, and Circle had already committed to bringing EURC and USDC to the EU in compliance with new MiCA regulations. Over the past 18 months, we have worked tirelessly to achieve this, and it is no coincidence that we are now the only major global issuer to make it happen. Navigating MiCA’s rigorous standards and rules is complex, especially for global stablecoins. In close consultation with French, EU, and US authorities, we have designed and implemented a robust and compliant dual issuance model for USDC, with Circle France becoming the issuer for our EU customers. All USDC out there remain globally fungible. EURC will be fully issued by Circle France, with all reserves held by Circle France in compliance with MiCA standards. Huge shoutout and thank you to all Circle colleagues involved in this project— way too many to tag here—whose teamwork and dedication have made this possible. Really grateful to be part of this team. I am about to publish an article with @ddisparte on how MiCA’s implementation will fundamentally transform EU crypto markets this year. This will also be the topic of my presentation at EthCC in Brussels on July 9th. So stay tuned! Incredibly proud of what we have achieved and even more excited for what lies ahead for us in the EU 🎉 💪

For years, the crypto industry has debated Proof of Work vs Proof of Stake. Turns out both sides were wrong. The most effective consensus mechanism, particularly for stablecoins and RWAs, is Proof of Press Release. No other consensus mechanism gets the Suits and their Simps to unanimously agree on something (like a 200 company consortium being guaranteed success) better than a press release filled with buzz words pointing to a website with little info. PoPR for the win!

Blockworks just acquired Messari. I've been thinking about it all weekend. These are the 2 biggest crypto media and research companies in the US. Here is what went through my mind. 1/ Both are American. The sector's dominant voice is now more concentrated than ever on one side of the Atlantic. 2/ The price. Messari sold for just over $10 million. In 2022, it was valued at $300 million. Yes, markets were different. But the collapse in value tells you something structural - the model had broken down. Which brings me to what actually matters. 3/ This is not an acquisition. It's a signal. @MessariCrypto and @Blockworks were built in 2017. First generation. Their model was built on people - large teams aggregating and packaging public data as research. That model made sense then. It does not anymore. AI has commoditized it entirely. And that is precisely why both companies have been accelerating their pivot, rethinking their model and approach before this deal. Today, 99% of information is public. But public information is no longer an insight - it's a marketing and communication vehicle. Everyone has access to it, which means no one gains an edge from it. What has value is the remaining 1%: proprietary signals that cannot be replicated, that you don't find in a press release or a public dashboard. This is why Blockworks has shut down its newsroom. The winner in this next cycle will not be the one who aggregates the most data. It will be the one who aggregates smartly and - above all - knows how to build signal from it. Blockworks is now the arch-leader in this space. But markets this large don't have one winner. There is room for serious competition - and that competition is already taking shape. As CEO of @TheBigWhale_ - one of Europe's reference players in this space - this is what we are building. Launched in 2022, second generation, AI-native by design. A team of ten, offices in Paris, Geneva and London, clients across Europe. No paid research. Full editorial independence, with what I believe is the best team on the planet covering the future of finance. That independence is not a constraint - it is why institutional clients trust us enough to sign annual licenses (+150 clients). And honestly? I'm glad the competition is getting serious. Between Blockworks-Messari in the US and players like @block_stories emerging in Europe, the market is maturing. That's good news - for companies, for investors, for the industry. More serious players means better market intelligence than anything that existed in the previous cycle. The bar is rising. That's exactly where we want to compete. Congrats to @JasonYanowitz and @MikeIppolito_ on this one. Genuinely inspiring to watch!

Sorry, but this is not a blockchain and the assets on the Corda-based network they seem to allude to are not tokens. There’s literally nothing about this solution that Citi couldn’t have rolled out years ago using vanilla ledger tech (I was there, I would know). The lack of awareness on these distinctions will be a big problem for a lot of companies eventually.
