Joe Kent testified before the Senate one year ago that Iran and its terror proxies threatened U.S. servicemembers in the Middle East. He said it would be an honor to return to the fight against terrorism, and he pledged to lead with integrity and accountability. The virulent anti-Semitism of his resignation letter makes it clear that Mr. Kent is incapable of upholding these pledges, and those who mistake its baseless and incendiary conspiracies for brave truth-telling are only fooling themselves. Isolationists and anti-Semites have no place in either party, and certainly do not deserve places of trust in our government.

I have been advised by Ohio's Adjutant General that three of the six servicemembers killed during the air refueling mission in Iraq were Ohioans deployed with the Ohio Air National Guard's 121st Air Refueling Wing. Fran and I are deeply saddened by this news and offer our sincere condolences to their families.

I am heartbroken to learn of the passing of my friend Tom Jenkins. Chairman Jenkins was a trusted friend, a steady presence, and a man who seemed to know everyone in Morgan County. His integrity, and genuine care for others leaves a lasting mark on the “MoCo” community he loved so dearly and Republican Party he led so faithfully. His devotion to his beloved Carolyn, his treasured grandchildren, and his entire family was evident to all who knew him. They are in my prayers during this difficult time, as is the entire Morgan County Republican Party and all who were blessed to call Tom a friend.

The fatal shooting of Alex Pretti is tragic. My prayers are with his family and all who are grieving. Any incident involving law enforcement’s use of lethal force must be thoroughly and objectively investigated.   ICE plays an important role in upholding our laws and protecting national security. Law enforcement officers and first responders, who are called upon to make split-second decisions in dangerous situations, are in difficult and often dangerous circumstances. I believe all public servants have a responsibility to lower the temperature around immigration enforcement, and no one should impede ongoing law enforcement actions.

The events in Minneapolis are incredibly disturbing. The credibility of ICE and DHS are at stake. There must be a full joint federal and state investigation. We can trust the American people with the truth.

This week, @LtGovJimTressel and I launched a new seatbelt campaign reminding Ohioans about the importance of buckling up. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, seatbelts have saved over 375,000 lives since 1975 — that's enough people to fill up Ohio Stadium four times.

Millions of Iranians demanded their freedom tonight. In response, the regime in Iran has cut all lines of communication. It has shut down the Internet. It has cut landlines. It may even attempt to jam satellite signals. I want to thank the leader of the free world, President Trump, for reiterating his promise to hold the regime to account. It is time for others, including European leaders, to follow his lead, break their silence, and act more decisively in support of the people of Iran. I call on them to use all technical, financial, and diplomatic resources available to restore communication to the Iranian people so that their voice and their will can be heard and seen. Do not let the voices of my courageous compatriots be silenced.
