@tautologer You're right that theres no functional difference, the "AI isn't actually intelligent" discourse is only useful to debunk AI fear mongering

there is no functional difference between predicting what an intelligent person would say in a situation and actually being intelligent. in order to predict what a smart person would say you need to be at least as smart as them
onion person@CantEverDie

my biggest pet peeve around LLMs is when people (usually those invested in its success) call it “intelligent”. it definitionally, how it functions on a base level, is not intelligent. the way LLMs are built, it can never hit real intelligence. it’s just predictive

@LateRoundQB Someone probably leaked to insiders that their team in the top 10 will select him, and now the draft media is scrambling to reflect that. Only real explanation

The narrative change on Jordyn Tyson is almost reaching conspiracy levels right now. I don't know what the conspiracy would be, but what the hell is going on?

@TitansMusee Cam Wards development is more important than rounding out the defense. The weapons on offense are still atrocious, Sadiq and Tyson have their lumps as prospects- but this incredibly defensible team building strategy

Not a fan of this mock due to the fact why would we trade back for a Tight End when EDGE specifically is a much greater need. WR can also be taken with pick 35 easily.

I genuinely think it’s time Peppy and Slippy became playable in smash. They’re arguably the most iconic Nintendo characters not yet playable (alongside Toad & Dixie Kong). Yeah they wouldn’t be that unique, but 2 more lower effort characters is fine. They’re arguably overdue.

People are bringing up the California plastic bag ban and maybe it's changed since I left four years ago but when I still lived there they didn't offer paper, they offered these thick "reusable" plastic bags that you had to play like 20 cents for.

@BringBackBanjoK @onlysmartbrain This tweet is probably a lot of people's first introduction to the Star Fox crew lol. Star Fox hasn't gotten a game in a decade, and hasn't had a good selling game since the early 2000's (not counting the Star Fox 64 remake). You live in a bubble

@ritovaku1980 @Tats_Gunso Crime rate would probably be lower if America were culturally similar to Japan (laws = morality), but not even the most staunch law abiding conservative here would want that if it meant unconditionally accepting the law as unimpeachable

@ritovaku1980 @Tats_Gunso I think the biggest reason for this cultural difference are the country's origin. America, and many other Western countries, were formed by revolution- defying laws perceived as unjust is quite literally baked into the country's DNA

@heychrisfox @MinModulation There are other examples, but that's probably the most egregious. There are plenty of great anime that are difficult to recommend to normies because of those cultural differences

@heychrisfox @MinModulation You're assuming what's inoffensive to western audiences must be universally so. I'm not an expert on Japanese culture, but the sexualization of minors in anime is common enough that I assume it's inoffensive to eastern audiences, while that's a complete non-starter in the west

While Full Metal Alchemist is very good, I almost feel it's too "good" for its own good - the insane acclaimed reputation in the West is partially due to being seemingly "inoffensive" to non-anime watchers. That is, many fans have a Phantom Normie peering over their shoulders.

@merlino_games Games aren't taken seriously as an art because they're historically associated with children and are held to unfair standards because of it. Any rationalizations that don't come to terms with that reality will always be a little disingenuous

@merlino_games The existence of the MCU and YA slop don't invalidate their respective mediums, so why are "unartistic" video games uniquely invalidating to the medium?

"fun" being a requirement for games is what keeps this medium from being taken seriously you're going to tell me Requiem for a Dream, The Downward Spiral, Blood Meridian, Guernica, etc, are "fun"? masterpieces have to be interesting, not necessarily "fun"

@Scuba_Steve161 @gamscout College football isn't fun to watch, but pretending to be a GM and thinking of the ways you can fix your team is a lot of fun. The draft is where teams can go from bottom feeders to contenders, it's inherently a fun time for NFL fans

Dane Brugler brought up a great point the other day. Guys who watch college football and watch players every single week and get to see the flow of the season have a way different opinion on prospects than the guys who watch no ball and just watch some cutups in March and April.

@darkestmattah @noximation You're conflating yield with quality. Tech has improved yield by making animation cheaper and more efficient- but that isn't the conversation being had. The point is that extremely fluid animation was achievable without the tech, which is why older anime are just as well animated

@CaldAngel01 @noximation Um no? This is literally just marginal theory of productivity An increase in tech(capital) with the same amount of labour shouldvptoduce higher yield to a certain extent

Why do non-animators perceive animation quality like video game graphics
