@KagimuDrImran He’s most likely moonlighting at three other jobs and knows his underperformance will not be seen because he’s taken 10% less than the company was willing to pay…

Today I was on an interview panel. One of the applicants was asked to state his salary expectations and he said: "I know it's already determined, I just need the job and whatever money you're willing to pay" He was hired, guess what was done to the salary 🥺

The blizzard finally called it a day… And I confess, I couldn’t resist the temptation of joining the hordes of New Yorkers venturing out to take selfies proving they had survived the ‘Blizzard of 2026’ And on my stroll I spied this small citizen of the storm. Out of shrieking winds and a city under lockdown.… emerged this mini-snowman. Proof that even nature’s tantrums can leave behind something playful. Perhaps that’s the outcome of every storm: not just damage, but unexpected life.

Yesterday, I shared a video of an interview about the undeniable criticality of AI. Today, I’m sharing a video of a craft rooted entirely in the human hand; guided by touch, patience, and aesthetic instinct. Bookbinding preserves not just books, but a mode of communication that feels increasingly fragile in a digital age. And I believe that as automation rises, crafts like this will only grow in value for those who cherish them. Bookbinding is truly spellbinding…🙂

Throw back pic from my first film, Masoom. On the first day of release, I went to the main theatre … and there were only two people in the whole cinema hall.. and one of them was me ! Those days ‘black marketing’ of cinema tickets was really prelavent .. young men, or even gangs, would bulk by cinema tickets and then sell them at higher prices on the day of the show.. of course if the hall was full .. Except the first show on the first day for Masoom, the hall was completely empty ! Outside I got surrounded by some pretty angry looking young boys when they discovered I was the director .. they had lost their money that day .. I must have looked pretty crestfallen. So one of them actually took pity on me, and said .. ‘Sir .. the problem is you’ve made an ‘article’ film’ .. if you want a career , don’t do that ‘ Article film ?? I kept wondering .. article film .. I realized he meant an ‘artistic film’ .. Don’t ever make an artistic film this young black marketeer was trying to warn me .. Well, the Friday of release .. all the cinema halls were empty .. as they were on Saturday, Sunday , Monday , Tuesday .. The Distributors of the film gave up trying to support the film. It was too expensive to keep the film showing to empty halls .. I remember the feeling that day .. when they told me they had decided to give up trying to hold the theatres .. I walked the streets of Mumbai and thought about what I was going to do next in my life , for making films was certainly no longer an option. Something strange happened on Thursday. A friend called me and asked if I could help him get tickets to Masoom. I told him that was a bad joke. But then .. On Thursday one cinema hall had filled up .. then on Friday there were lines of people waiting to buy tickets .. and over the weekend the distributors were scrambling to get back the halls they had given up, and my ‘Article’ film was declared a hit .. What happened that weekend ? People say in retrospect it was ‘Word of mouth’ .. but how could it be, when hardly anyone saw the film ? What happened that Thursday ? .. I still wonder as am about to go into making ‘Masoom, the next generation’ .. years after Masoom the original became a cult film .. Is ‘Masoom, the next generation’ another ‘Article film’ ? #film #Masoom #throwback #directing #FilmDirecting #Career

@TheLaurenChen The stories of colonialism in the Belgian Congo are enough to debunk this post. Hard to take over the factory infrastructure when your hands are cut off and up to 10MM people are dead because of the “management trainee program”…

People often say that the developing world is poor because the Western world colonized them and stole their resources. The truth, however, is that over the past century, the developing world has, for the most part, shown that they are completely incapable of harnessing their own resources. They are not poor because we stole from them. They are poor because they do not know how to run and administer their own countries, resources be damned. Take Venezuela. The world's largest oil reserves mean nothing if you have a corrupt communist as your leader. People will actually be starving and trying to eat zoo animals while you sit on trillions of dollars in resources! Africa is another example. Europeans left behind farmland, trains, roads, and mines in Africa. What happened to it all? It's not that all of a sudden, the Africans started running things like anti-colonialist activists had envisioned at the time. No, no. All the infrastructure fell into disrepair and/or was stripped down and looted. They were literally handed fully functioning, completed supply chains for resource extraction, and basically unlimited wealth, but they couldn't manage the simple upkeep. Now, the defense for Africa might be that "The Europeans didn't teach the Africans how to manage any of this! It's not the Africans' fault they couldn't run it independently! They were never trained!" But my brother in Christ, the Europeans DID try to train locals for management! Obviously it would have been easier to have at least some locals in administration, rather than having to import an ENTIRE workforce, but efforts to find African talent were largely unsuccessful. Don't believe me? Just look at the different outcomes in Hong Kong and Singapore when compared to Africa. In East Asia, Europeans often did work with locals in administrative and management capacities. When colonialism ended, Hong Kong and Singapore were able to manage themselves. Not the case with Africa. Now, none of this is to say that colonialism is good. People have the right to self-rule and seld-determination. However, the idea that colonialism and resources extraction are responsible for the developing world's ongoing poverty? That is quite simply a crock of shit.

So @Asmongold just reacted to Unleash the Avatar. Arguably the most ambitious Indian video game ever. Here's a quote from his stream: "Can you imagine how over it's gonna be for Western devs if India starts making good video games?"

As an Indian guy, I’m confused . Why do people hate Indians so much? Is it because we dominate in tech, medicine, engineering, business? Is is because we came to America with nothing and are now doing well for ourselves? 🔥🔥🔥

Why does the Indian film industry still report Net Box Office figures instead of Gross Box Office figures like everywhere else in the world? Earlier this was due to varying levels of entertainment tax across states - but now those taxes are replaced by a common GST…🧐

Hey @AdityaDharFilms , This is exactly why cinema moves forward, when one visionary inspires another to go even further. You didn’t work inside my cinema. You outgrew it. And that’s how it should be. If a filmmaker only echoes his influences, he’s a fan. But when he absorbs them and then breaks away, he becomes a brand new force and that’s what you are Dhurandhar didn’t impress me because it reminded me of anything I’ve done. It impressed me because it didn’t ask anyone for neither permission nor validation.. That’s rare. That’s courage . That’s new cinema. To live up to a tweet is just being polite and utmost a small ambition. I can clearly see in your film , your own restlessness and that’s what will keep frightening people about you for long If the boy who came to Mumbai became a man in Uri he’s now become a superman with Durandhar Keep Soaring 🔥🔥🔥
Aditya Dhar@AdityaDharFilms

Sir… 🙏 If this tweet were a film, I would have gone to watch it first day first show, stood in the last row, and come out changed. I came to Mumbai years ago carrying one suitcase, one dream, and an unreasonable belief that I would one day work under Ram Gopal Verma. That never happened. But somewhere along the way, without knowing it, I worked inside your cinema. Your films didn’t teach me how to make movies — they taught me how to think dangerously. To have you say that Dhurandhar is a quantum leap feels surreal, emotional, and honestly a little unfair… because now whatever I do next has to live up to this tweet. 😄 You were one of my favourite directors who made Indian cinema feel fearless, impolite, and alive. If Dhurandhar has even a fraction of that DNA, it’s because your films whispered (sometimes screamed) in my head while I was writing and directing it. If I’ve assumed the audience is intelligent, it’s because you taught an entire generation that cinema should never apologize for its ambition. Thank you for this generosity, this madness, and this validation.
The fan in me is overwhelmed.
The filmmaker in me feels challenged. And the boy who came to Mumbai to work under RGV… finally feels seen. 🎥🔥🙏
