A new, highly mutated COVID-19 variant nicknamed “Cicada” (BA.3.2) is spreading in the United States. The BA.3.2 variant, first detected in South Africa in late 2024, has now been identified in at least 23 countries and in at least 25 U.S. states. It is gaining traction slowly but steadily, particularly since late 2025. What sets Cicada apart is its significant genetic changes: it carries approximately 70 to 75 mutations in the spike protein — the part of the virus that attaches to and enters human cells. These mutations appear to help the variant partially evade antibodies from prior infections or vaccination, potentially allowing it to spread more effectively even among people with some existing immunity. So far, there is no evidence that BA.3.2 causes more severe disease than other recent Omicron subvariants. Symptoms remain typical of COVID-19, including cough, fever, sore throat, fatigue, congestion, and in some cases shortness of breath or loss of taste/smell. Current COVID-19 vaccines (targeting earlier strains like JN.1) still offer protection, though laboratory studies suggest they may be somewhat less effective at preventing infection with Cicada compared to dominant strains. However, they continue to reduce the risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and death. This pattern has become familiar with SARS-CoV-2: new variants often evolve to become better at spreading and evading immunity rather than necessarily becoming more deadly. Public health experts continue to monitor BA.3.2 closely through genomic surveillance, but it currently accounts for only a small fraction of cases in the U.S.

An American citizen’s baby can’t become a Chinese citizen by being born on the soil of China. Can anyone explain why a Chinese citizen’s baby should be able to become an American citizen by being born on the soil here? It’s absolute insanity.

It is a sad statement of the current state of medical incentives that this post elicits genuine outrage from medical professionals that pre-diabetic patients are entitled to government-funded sugary drinks. This is medical malpractice. Inflammatory food slows down recovery.
Calley Means@calleymeans

If a hospital is serving patients sugary drinks, they are out of compliance with government standards and are putting their reimbursements in jeopardy. If you see patients being served sugary drinks, please post information below or let CMS know: cms.gov/medical-bill-r…

Texas treats an occupied vehicle as part of your protected space under the Castle Doctrine rules. Under Texas Penal Code § 9.31, you are generally justified in using force if you reasonably believe it is immediately necessary to protect yourself from the other person’s use or attempted use of unlawful force. If the person is armed, approaches your occupied car, and you believe you are in imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death, using force (including deadly force, in some cases) may be lawful.

@SaltyGoat17 If you shoot this asshole you're going to jail. Appropriate response drive off run his weapon wielding ass over you're good. 2nd choice as soon as he raises that stupid blade. Then you're probably cool to shoot his ass. The 1st choice will be less expensive and more satisfying

There is ZERO reason for any hospital anywhere to be serving patients pancakes with maple syrup and sugar muffins first thing in the morning. Yet every hospital I’ve ever worked in has this as a breakfast option.

NEW: Former Congressman Matt Gaetz says he was briefed about a secret program where aliens were breeding with humans to make a hybrid race. Gaetz says the humans who were involved were allegedly abducted from war zones and migrant caravans. "What they explained is that the military ran a very secret program where aliens that were living were in forced breeding programs with humans that had been abducted from war zones and from even the caravans of migrants." "The whistleblower was telling me that there were between 6 and 12 locations around the country where this happened." Video: @bennyjohnson

I have a habit of stopping by airport chapels when I have the time. Most of them have closed down in the US in major airports, but DFW reopened theirs and they’re basically mosques. I had a very uncomfortable experience praying in the chapel on Palm Sunday, but I refused to leave while the Muslims were being so nasty. I refused to leave what is meant to be a temple of the Lord, especially on Palm Sunday. I had a long layover so I waited them out. One man grew frustrated after about 30 minutes and left, but not before others came in. They were clearly having conversations about me in Arabic. They weren’t being shy about letting me know they were talking about me. But I sat and prayed and read the Bible and I did not leave until the last Muslim had cleared out. It was actually a very scary experience given how isolated the chapel was, but I think we need to start staking ground.
