Umberto Eco, who owned 50,000 books, had this to say about home libraries: “It is foolish to think that you have to read all the books you buy, as it is foolish to criticize those who buy more books than they will ever be able to read. It would be like saying that you should use all the cutlery or glasses or screwdrivers or drill bits you bought before buying new ones. “There are things in life that we need to always have plenty of supplies, even if we will only use a small portion. “If, for example, we consider books as medicine, we understand that it is good to have many at home rather than a few: when you want to feel better, then you go to the ‘medicine closet’ and choose a book. Not a random one, but the right book for that moment. That’s why you should always have a nutrition choice! “Those who buy only one book, read only that one and then get rid of it. They simply apply the consumer mentality to books, that is, they consider them a consumer product, a good. Those who love books know that a book is anything but a commodity.”

Mel Gibson’s RESURRECTION OF THE CHRIST has wrapped its seven month shoot in Rome. Gibson has described his $250M two-part epic as “an acid trip” featuring angelic/demonic battles set during Christ’s descent into hell. tinyurl.com/muutm69c

@HariSel57511397 The original post is kind of misleading. This concept art is for James Xenogenesis movie concept that never got made. He just reused ideas from it like blue aliens and flying manta ray type creatures.

A lot of people mock boomers for being raised by tv but millennial progressives are claiming they replaced the Bible with Ted Lasso A show about a nice white man who gets cheated on and left my his wife and then learns that women and minorities are right about everything
John Ʌ Konrad V@johnkonrad

“As modern progressives not going to church we have to do more to inculcated moral lessons in our kids,” Ryan Holiday “We watch Ted Lasso with our kids,” NYTimes science reporter “Yes!" 🥴🥴

American must be understood as its own ethnos. You’re not a mutt, you’re not English-Irish-French-Italian-Polish-Scottish-German because you’ve got fractions and percents of each. You belong to your own ethnic group unique to this continent distinct from all others. Theodore Roosevelt understood this well. “The children and grandchildren of the men who came here from England, Ireland, Germany, France, Scandinavia, and the rest of Europe have become Americans—a new race, with a new ethnic type, and they are no more Englishmen or Germans or Scandinavians than the descendants of the Norman invaders of England are Frenchmen. The frontier conditions made a new race. The stern struggle with the wilderness and with wild men welded together the descendants of many European stocks into one people—the American. Out of the crucible of the wilderness came a new ethnic type, hardy, self-reliant, democratic in instinct, and with a continent for its inheritance.”

If they ever do a period piece Bond film (set in the 50s like the books), the Hong Kong underworld would be the perfect setting. A smuggling haven crawling with Russian, Chinese, and American agents waging the Cold War in the last jewel of a dying British Empire.

After folks laughed at AOC for not knowing vaquero history, I knew Wikipedia would alter their meaning to fit hers, so I took a screenshot, and they finally did rewrite it. Wiki removed vaquero from 'The origins of the vaquero tradition come from Spain...'

AOC making fun of Rubio: "My favorite part is she he said cowboys are rooted in Spain. Uhhh, speak to Mexicans & African slaves!" FACT CHECK: Cowboys trace their roots to Spanish cattle herders. Spain brought the tradition to Mexico, where it evolved into the vaquero system, later moving north into Texas and the American West which later became the American cowboy.

You read the Bible and think “Wow God wiping out an entire civilization with brimstone and hellfire, seems harsh” Then you see stuff like this and you realize it isn’t harsh enough

Lefties singing Battle Hymn of the Republic in SF is deeply ironic bc in 2020 they destroyed the statue of Ulysses S Grant, the man who defeated the Confederacy. The taxpayer-funded @SFAC has refused to fix it for over half a decade, claiming the statue is not “equitable”
