Russia’s overnight attack on Dnipro and the region lasted more than six hours. A missile strike damaged an apartment block, with other civilian infrastructure also heavily hit. The attack also targeted energy facilities and residential buildings across the region. Drones struck Odesa as well, and one of the UAVs hit a vessel owned by China. The Russians could not have been unaware of what vessel was at sea. Overall, destruction was recorded across eight regions, and as of now, dozens of people across the country have been reported injured, including children.
In total, the Russians used 524 attack drones and 22 missiles of various types in this strike – both ballistic and cruise missiles. Air raid alerts remain in effect across many border and frontline communities, but our services are operating wherever the security situation allows. Russia relies on ballistic missiles to strike people, and that is precisely why we in Europe must do everything possible to ensure reliable protection against this. Europe must have its own anti-ballistic systems and be self-sufficient in the face of these threats. We repeat once again: we need our own anti-ballistic capabilities and stronger Ukrainian air defense right now. This week will be focused on working with our partners to strengthen the protection of lives. I thank everyone already working on this together with Ukraine.
Stone cold racism on a scale I have NEVER seen in my lifetime is happening in real time.
Louisiana Governor Landry suspended a primary election — where tens of thousands of people had ALREADY VOTED — to redistrict and eliminate Black representation.
Our country is supposed to be about the expansion of liberty and freedom. We're seeing the exact opposite.
BREAKING: A Russian missile attack on a Kyiv apartment building the previous day killed 24 people, including three children, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Friday. apnews.com/article/russia…
It was a Kh-101 missile that struck a residential building in Kyiv, according to preliminary data.
The missile was manufactured in the second quarter of this year. This means Russia is still importing the components, resources, and equipment necessary for missile production in circumvention of global sanctions.
Stopping Russia’s sanctions evasion schemes must be a genuine priority for all our partners.

Ian McKellen reveals Obi-Wan Kenobi actor Alec Guinness advised him to stay quiet on gay rights because it's "unseemly for an actor to dabble in political affairs": "I didn't follow"
"He had heard about my work to establish Stonewall – a lobby group to present to the government and the world at large the case for treating UK lesbians and gays equally under the law with the rest of the population. He thought it somewhat unseemly for an actor to dabble in public or political affairs and advised me, sort of pleaded with me, to withdraw. Advice from an older generation, which I "didn’t follow." This is a hard article to read, but I hope you'll do so. I've spent some time reporting on widespread rape and other sexual violence of Palestinian male and female prisoners by Israeli authorities, and the article is now published. The assault victims were warned not to give speak of what they endured -- they were sometimes told they would be killed or raped if they gave interviews -- but they found the courage to do so. One man described being raped three times in a single day in Israeli prison, the third time after he tried to protest. A young woman said the guards would come in at the beginning of each shift and strip her naked and abuse her. Another reported that she was shown photos of herself being raped and warned they would be released unless she cooperated with Israeli intelligence. Even three children who had been detained told me they had been sexually abused. Look, whatever our position on the Middle East, we should be able to agree on being anti-rape. Sexual assaults were horrific when Israeli women were targeted on Oct. 7, and they're equally horrific when Israeli authorities use them against Palestinians day after day after day. We should be able to find common ground in opposing rape. Here's a gift link to the article: nytimes.com/2026/05/11/opi…
"If there is one story from the past week that best represents the brave new world we are entering...it was that Turkey, on May 5, unveiled an intercontinental ballistic missile in Istanbul at the 2026 SAHA defense and aerospace exhibition."
