Not only is the rule of law dead in Hong Kong, its free market system is morphing into banana republic. It’s shameful that a Western CEO is still visiting Hong Kong to assist Beijing in attempting to whitewash this reality.

Exactly how any government should be. Thank you, @BradWestPoCo !
Brad West@BradWestPoCo

Warmer weather meets potholes. The way some cities deal with that is to wait until you hit one with your car and call to complain…and then fix it…maybe. In the @CityofPoCo, we take a different approach. Our crews go out and proactively identify all the potholes in the city, and then we fix them over 2-3 days. Every single one. Launched in 2023, our annual pothole blitz has repaired over 500 potholes meaning safer roads and smoother commutes. That’s what it means to get the basics right and that’s how we deliver for the residents of Port Coquitlam: line by line, decision by decision, and even pothole by pothole.

🚨 Foreign companies with supply chains in China have pretty much been taken hostage by Beijing… and the world doesn’t seem to have noticed. Beijing has enacted sweeping new regulations to investigate and punish foreign companies that stop using Chinese suppliers in response to political pressure at home. The 18-point regulations, described in state media as an effort to “prevent security risks in industrial and supply chains,” supplement the already formidable authority afforded to Chinese regulators to investigate multinational corporations for moving supply chains out of China. Under the new rules, regulators can question employees and examine corporate records during investigations. The regulations also allow the authorities to bar companies and individuals from leaving China if they are suspected of moving supply chains elsewhere under foreign pressure. nytimes.com/2026/04/14/bus…

We Canadians have the right to know what has been hiding from us at our three levels of government, the crown corporations/public institutions and community groups that are funded by taxpayers’ money. Fair?

The official that Starmer fired for Mandelson app. testified ‘It was clear the Prime Minister wanted to make the appointment himself’ This is how corruption occurs, use of staff and deniability. I don’t need to say what I think is happening in Ottawa, if you follow me you know.

Staggering admission: Starmer is not in control of his own government. Starmer appointed Peter Mandelson ambassador to the United States. Mandelson failed security vetting. No one told Starmer. 🤔 Mandelson has deep ties to Communist China.

Prominent Hong Kong urologist and pro-democracy politician Kwok Ka-Ki, who was jailed and recently released after serving a 4-year sentence on national security charges, has just announced that he has been stripped of the right to practice medicine in HK. In his announcement, Dr Kwok mentioned that apart from him, there are teachers who are barred from teaching, social workers who are barred from helping the vulnerable, and lawyers who are barred from practising law. Dr Kwok’s and my being barred from our respective professions as medical doctor and lawyer are not isolated cases. Hong Kong’s national security crackdown is transforming the city’s professions, and not in a good way.

BREAKING: Former Xinjiang police officer (2014–2023) confirms that detentions and forced labor continue today. From 2023, officials detained Uyghurs who avoided forced labor or allegedly disobeyed state orders. 🧵 Zhang, the former police officer, says that under Ma Xingrui, Chen Quanguo's successor, visible repression campaigns were replaced with hidden coercion. Village committees have unilateral authority to order residents to accept labor transfers. Refusal triggers up to 15 days in detention. From 2023, authorities employed rolling, pre-emptive short-term detentions as calculated intimidation, designed to enforce total submission. Zhang observed how Uyghur culture is now nearly extinct: the village he worked in has been largely emptied of working-age adults — many are in prison or shipped away for forced labor. Speaking Uyghur is prohibited in schools. Mosques are closed or guarded 24/7. Zhang estimates a quarter of the adult population in his village was interned in re-education camps between 2017–2019, excluding those sent to prisons. Under Ma Xingrui, Chen Quanguo's successor, visible repression campaigns were replaced with hidden coercion. In 2019, Zhang worked at the Hotan County re-education headquarters where detainee records were falsified and the true scale hidden even from higher-level authorities. HOW COERCION WORKS: Village committees have unilateral authority to order residents to accept labor transfers. Refusal triggers mandatory night school, unpaid communal labor, or up to 15 days in detention facilities. My report in Foreign Policy outlines the details (link is below in the first comment)

I would even go so far as to say the situation brewing in Canada is worse in some ways. The reasons are because there is the political divide that is now just as bitter as in the US, but there are longstanding historical and unresolved grievances with different areas of the country. There is a new level of acrimony thanks to floor crossing, always part of the system but never abused by people to this degree, and all of this, can and likely is, being exploited by foreign adversaries thanks to neglect of national security. Add to this the deteriorating economic situation.

🇨🇳 citizen and 🇨🇳 CCP member Youhuang Xiang, formerly a post-doctoral researcher at Indiana University, has been sentenced to more than four months in prison, a $500 fine, and one year of supervised release, after pleading guilty to smuggling biologic materials into the US from China. As part of Xiang’s plea agreement with the government, Xiang also stipulated to the entry of a Judicial Order of Removal, which will result in his immediate removal from the US to China. Xiang, who holds a PhD from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, applied for and received a US Non‑Immigrant student (J‑1) visa to perform postdoctoral research in the Department of Biology at Indiana University Bloomington (“IU”), beginning June 12, 2023. In Nov 2025 the FBI’s Indianapolis Division began investigating suspicious shipments from China to individuals affiliated with Indiana University.  During the investigation, FBI agents determined that Xiang had received a suspicious shipment from China at his Bloomington, Indiana, residence in Mar 2024. The package in question originated from Guangzhou Sci‑Tech Innovation Trading, and the shipping manifest declared that the package contained “Underwear of Man-Made Fibers, Other Womens.” Investigators found it unusual that Xiang was purchasing and shipping women’s underwear from China, especially from a company focused on science and technology innovation. On Nov 23, 2025, Xiang was interviewed by US Customs and Border Protection (“CBP”) officials at Chicago O’Hare International Airport as he returned to the US from a research trip in the UK. During that interview, Xiang initially denied any knowledge of smuggling but subsequently admitted the shipping manifest for the package he received in Mar 2024 was intentionally mislabeled and samples of DNA of E. coli bacteria were concealed in that package to circumvent US law.  Based on those admissions, CBP immediately terminated Xiang’s J‑1 visa, and he was arrested by the FBI. During the sentencing hearing on April 7, 2026, the US District Court also heard that the FBI’s investigation uncovered evidence that Xiang was a member of the CCP, and that Xiang lied about his affiliation with the CCP when questioned by immigration authorities. justice.gov/usao-sdin/pr/i… idsnews.com/article/2026/0…

🇨🇳 national Youhuang Xiang, a postdoctoral fellow at Innes Lab at the Department of Biology at Indiana University Bloomington, was arrested for smuggling genetic material from E. coli bacteria into the US on Nov 25. Xiang entered the country in 2023 on a J-1 educational exchange visa to secure a postdoctoral position at the school. In Mar 2024, Xiang requested that a person in China referred to as “Individual A” ship plasmid DNA from E. coli bacteria to his home in Bloomington, Indiana. The material was shipped to him shortly after, concealed in a package of clothing items that “Individual A” declared included a men’s vest and women’s underwear. The package allegedly came from Guangzhou Sci Tech Innovation Trading. More than a year later, on Nov 23, 2025, Xiang landed in Chicago after returning from a trip to London, where agents with Customs and Border Protection questioned him. During that interview, he lied to them about the package he had sent to his home and about his ties to the Chinese government. Xiang was scheduled to remain at Indiana University through 2027 and was leading a research program focused on genome editing in wheat plants to increase resistance to fungal diseases. The FBI was made aware of the shipment by CBP as part of an investigation into biological materials being smuggled into the US from China, which is why he was questioned on Nov 23. Information provided to the FBI by CBP included information about the history of shipments from China to certain individuals at IU conducting research into wheat pathogen resistance. That information indicated that Xiang was associated with that research and that Xiang received a shipment from China at his residence on Mar 28, 2024. The FBI also thought it was “odd” that Xiang purchased and shipped “women’s underwear from China, and further assessed it as peculiar that a company by the name ‘Guangzhou Sci Tech Innovation Trading’ would sell underwear or clothing.” A paper written by Xiang also listed his affiliation with the National Key Laboratory of Plant Molecular Genetics in Shanghai, which raised flags for investigators. “I know from my training and experience that the PRC ‘Key Laboratories’ are overseen by the Chinese Government and have a history of concerning actions including technology transfer and theft of intellectual property.”  dailywire.com/news/chinese-n…

Hong Kong-born 🇨🇳 CCP-supporting singer Jackson Wang (王嘉尔) waved the CCP flag during his concert at the Coca-Cola Coliseum in 🇨🇦 Toronto on Apr 12. Given Beijing’s efforts to mobilize everyone to tell China’s stories well, pop idols like Wang have an outsized but often-overlooked political influence on their international fan bases.

A long post, but worth reading

1/8 Canada is Beijing’s backyard, not Washington’s... While the U.S. was rigorously arresting CCP spies and operatives infiltrating universities and high-tech firms via the "China Initiative," Canada to the north was undergoing a silent, almost compliant collapse. The case of Xiangguo Qiu is the ultimate textbook example of this institutional dam failure. It involves the theft of Canada’s top-tier viral research for the CCP—an operative who received the Governor General’s Innovation Award while shielded by the Liberal government, only to safely return to China to continue serving a tyranny. Top-Tier Infiltration Under the Guise of National Honor The irony of this case challenges the moral baseline of civilized society: • Qiu was once a celebrated "hero" of Canadian science for her work on Ebola. • While receiving one of Canada’s highest honors, she was abusing her authority at the Winnipeg P4 Lab—Canada’s highest-security bio-research facility—to secretly funnel lethal viral strains and core research data to the CCP. A Chilling Judicial Black Hole The most terrifying part isn’t the sophistication of CCP espionage, but the Liberal government’s reaction. This wasn't just a lapse in management; it was a betrayal of national security. • Judicial Paralysis: Despite actions involving multiple felonies, no criminal charges were ever filed. The Qius were not even monitored during the investigation and were ultimately allowed to "gracefully" depart for China. • Feeding the Tyranny: Upon her return, Qiu immediately took the helm at Chinese military research institutions (such as the Academy of Military Medical Sciences), using Canadian-funded knowledge to bolster the CCP’s biological warfare capabilities. • Malicious Silencing: Facing this scandal, the Liberal government blocked investigation reports and obstructed Parliamentary inquiries to bury the truth. This is not just "old news." It is a warning that Canada is sinking deeper into a trap. When a nation allows a threat of this magnitude to leave with high honors and zero accountability, its internal defense mechanisms have already failed. Today, I will dissect this case to show how Canada is being systematically bound to the CCP tyranny. 1/8 #XiangguoQiu #WinnipegLab #NationalSecurity #CCPExposed #BioSecurity #CdnPoli #TrudeauMustGo #LiberalScandal #CanadaChina #StopEspionage #BiologicalWarfare #ChinaThreat #NoMoreAppeasement
