Hi Everyone! Shannon here again. I wanted to share details for Jason’s Celebration of Life on Saturday, April 27th at 2pm. For those who would like to view online the stream will be linking to the Home page of The Spire’s YouTube channel. It’s not really an active channel because there are no other videos available for viewing, but it will be obvious when the stream starts 10-15 minutes beforehand.
Please join us if you can. 💙

Hi everyone. It’s Shannon-Jason’s spouse aka Mrs. Canuck. I wanted to share the news of his passing here as it was such a major part of his journey.
Jason passed away Friday, April 5th peacefully with his Dad and I by his side.
Jason was an amazing human and I feel so grateful to have had him as my partner for 8 years. He has impacted so many people which is evident with all of these mentions and messages.
He gave us all a masterclass in grit, compassion, empathy, grace and humour right to the end.
He will be missed and never forgotten by all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
FUCK CANCER
Love,
Shannon

I’m here, alive after being admitted to the palliative care hospital last week.

I’m never sure how much detail to give in a #cancer update.
As always, I’ve appreciated the love and support. From the pings, DMs, and calls.
Over the last week or so, I’ve been experiencing some new symptoms.
Jaundice being the worst and scariest. It means that my #ColonCancer is progressing quite quickly.
We’re managing the symptoms. It’s working.
English

@andys1960 @ThanksCancer Hey! I’m still kicking.
English

Hey @CancerCanuck I haven't seen any updates and was thinking about you. Hope all is as well as they can be. Take care my friend.
@ThanksCancer have you heard from Jason?

@allesraakdodgy @IMcFall @ThanksCancer @ogcancerpatient @CancerShitpost @dog_rates @DogsTrust I have fond memories of watching my dad‘s labrador get introduced to saltwater. Just a rundown the beach, so so excited, splash right into the water. Then, the big gulp.
Let’s just say that he did not enjoy that.

@IMcFall @ThanksCancer @CancerCanuck @ogcancerpatient @CancerShitpost @dog_rates @DogsTrust I love how they just dash into water - no matter how cold (or how dirty 🤨).
We can learn so much from just watching them be the best dog they can be, effortlessly without fail 😀

Can we please take a moment to appreciate my beautiful boy Jamal who always motivates me to live another day @ThanksCancer @CancerCanuck @ogcancerpatient @CancerShitpost @dog_rates @DogsTrust

@CancerCanuck I got docked a point on a discussion for not citing a page number from a web article that has no page numbers. Sigh.

A couple of friends came to visit this afternoon. The three of us have various stages of #ColonCancer.
It was special to be able to spend a few hours catching up. With treatment cycles and distance (they both live 1.5-2hrs away) it can be hard to make things work.
One of them 3D printed a lithophane of Shannon and I, which we really love. It’s a pretty cool gift.

English

@debbie_legault Precisely.
It’s an individual choice and each person will have their rational or philosophical reasons for what they decide.
They cost benefit analysis is starting to move to the forefront of research.
Most of all, I think patients want control and options.
English

@CancerCanuck You know, being part of this community has made me feel very differently about treatment. I would ask very different questions about the cost benefit analysis than I would have before. For some that 6 months is important, but for others it’s 6 months of shitty effucks no gain.
English

Quality time and comfort have always been more important to me than longevity.
One of my treatment options was to re-challenge FOLFOX. Having been treated with that regimen in a non-metastatic setting, the side effects alone are enough for me to know it’s a bad idea.
…and it didn’t work the first time.
So, with no reasonable treatment options available, I decided that it’s time to just stop.
Now, my symptoms are managed by community nursing. They come to my home to make sure that I’m doing as well as can be from a comfort perspective.
Those appointments that used to fill the week have gone away. I’m not being dragged around appointment to appointment. Instead, I get to spend time with my spouse, friends, and family.
I’d rather that than by two weeks hooked up to an IV machine outside of my house.

@FredGPhotos Thank you. Yes, I’ve been a bit quieter lately. A lot quieter, in fact.
Just need to focus on resting these days.

Finished up my medical appointments for the week.
So far things are status quo. I’ll take it.
I wish I was doing something cool but I’m drinking a hydration beverage. Been parched lately.
Picked up some Joyburst and have to admit it’s pretty tasty!

@kango_rue That’s a throwback! I don’t remember the brand but it’s really familiar. If it’s not full of sugar and in a nonsensical package, how are people supposed to know it’s for kids?
Kingston, Ontario 🇨🇦 English

@CancerCanuck You triggered a memory of Sunny Boy ice blocks as a child in Queensland. They came in triangular / pyramid shaped Tetra Paks I loved the Orange Explosion, and Raspberry Razz (pretended we had red lipstick) Mind you, these were full of sugar 😵💫

English

@poorbabi Maybe. It could also be new because I’d never heard of it, either.
English

@CancerCanuck I have never heard of that beverage. Wonder if just in Canada?
