@Capt_Sui Learning the hard way is what others should avoid. We look like the front runners and that’s why we’re sharing our experiences early on, so others can avoid situations like this.

This piece would worth your time if you’ve been looking an opportunity to see life outside Web3 or rather, CRYPTO. Taking ~4 months break and focusing on my IRL job made me realize the Web3 community is a tiny-minority bubble, who seeks validation from the outside world, while thinking the outside world is not fit to be part of it. No shade yeah, but the range of respect for Web2 (Real World) companies is way more weighty than the respect for most Web3 companies (crypto projects). If you’re like me, an African young man in his late 20s, slowly building his name, portfolio, career, family, and quality of life in general, you’ll want to build credibility through the most believable means. I’m talking about gaining undeniable proofs in the widely believed and accepted communities/companies. I realised there’s: 🚫 Little to no community service in Web3, 🚫 Little to no work reference if asked for by the regular companies in the world (provided the Web3 company you worked for is not defunct already due to a terrible hack or the founders eloping with the project’s funds). 🚫 No verifiable work experience since most of these Web3 projects are not fully registered companies. You’ll be enjoying the money Web3 gives you for below par/low-quality gigs until it’s time to compete in the real world with the niche demons. These are people who have given their lives towards becoming the best versions of them while getting rewarded slowly, and climbing the ladder of real world relevance very fast. This made me believe money can be temporary, and money without relevance is not good enough. If you’re a young person who’s into crypto and you don’t want to do anything else apart from cryptocurrency, you might want to consider having a rethink. I was once in your shoes until I saw the world through a wide angle lens. I saw how people react when I tell them “I only do crypto”. If you ask me, I would suggest you allocate 40% of your time to your crypto life, 20% to learning, and 40% to volunteering, exercise, feeding, family, self care, etc. Every young person needs to build their relevancy as they grow up, and being in Web3 space alone won’t do that for you. I hope you understand. If you’ve got a circle of friends who have the “only crypto” mindset, you should send this to them and help them see beyond it.
