@LeahLibresco Where does one acquire this not from Amazon? The publisher still has it listed as preorder (despite listing release as today), B&N have it out of stock online/in stores, & last I checked Bookshop doesn't even show it in results.

Before anyone makes any comments on this defamation suit filed by a public offical, they should read New York Times Co. v. Sullivan, 376 U.S. 254 (1964). As satisfying as discovery would be to see, it's unlikely to go so far. Motion to Dismiss is procedurally appropriate.
John Jackson@hissgoescobra

If I am The Atlantic, I do not file motion to dismiss. I go straight to discovery and wait for summary judgment. Get Kash Patel on the record under oath. A lot of great content there by the way. Set a precedent that you will fight and you will seek to punish.

@AmSolidarity For the ASP, what does supporting school choice look like in terms of policy?

States aren’t required to make public funds available for privately-run schools–though we think supporting school choice is a good idea. When they do, though, they cannot exclude schools with religious values.
Eric Rassbach@ericrassbach

BREAKING: The Supreme Court just granted cert in a @becketfund case that will decide whether states can exclude religious Americans from public benefits simply because they are following the precepts of their faith.

When simulation becomes the norm, it weakens the human capacity for discernment. As a result, our social bonds close in upon themselves, forming self-referential circuits that no longer expose us to reality. We thus come to live within bubbles, impermeable to one another. Feeling threatened by anyone who is different, we grow unaccustomed to encounter and dialogue. In this way, polarization, conflict, fear and violence spread. What is at stake is not merely the risk of error, but a transformation in our very relationship with truth.

Within digital environments — structured to persuade — interaction is optimized to the point of rendering a real encounter superfluous; the otherness of persons in the flesh is neutralized, and relationships are reduced to functional responses. Dear friends, you, however, are real persons! Creation itself has a body, a breath, a life to be listened to and safeguarded.

#ArtificialIntelligence systems increasingly shape and permeate our mentality and social environments. Like every great historical transformation, this too calls not only for technical competence, but also for a humanistic formation capable of making visible the logic behind economics, embedded biases and forms of power that shape our perception of reality.

The Catholic University can form pioneers of a new humanism in the context of the digital revolution. This is a service to the truth and to all humanity. Without this demanding educational effort, passive adaptation to dominant paradigms will be mistaken for competence, and the loss of freedom for progress. #ApostolicJourney #Cameroon

@BretVDB I was afraid you'd say that. I can't stand the paper type & quality of the LOA editions, but they are lovely to have. I have the Knopf Collected & dearly love Stevens.

There’s an astonishing section right in the middle of Vollmann’s “The Rifles” about how the invention of the gun was basically a Faustian bargain that both created and doomed the world as we know it—and it’s told mostly through quotations from books & diaries as things get worse

In addition to The Tunnel being available in full color print again, it’s worth noting that the audiobook — read by Gass himself — is available as a digital audiobook for the first time ever. It was previously a 46 CD set. Also, here’s Gass recording it.
