Before England. Before Britain. Before the Romans. 🌿 There was a class of people in this island who held everything in their heads. The Romans called them Druids. 🌳 They were the doctors. The lawyers. The judges. The astronomers. The philosophers. The poets. All in one. In one lifetime. They could walk between two armies about to fight and stop the battle. With a raised hand. ✋ Caesar recorded this. Strabo recorded this. Diodorus Siculus recorded this. Three independent sources. Caesar himself wrote that Britain was the origin of Druidism 🇬🇧 Training took up to twenty years. Medicine. Law. Astronomy. Philosophy. History. The size of the cosmos. ⭐ All of it memorised. Not one word written down. On the sixth day of the moon a Druid in white climbed an oak tree with a golden sickle and cut the mistletoe. Others caught it in white cloth below. It must never touch the ground. They called it the all-healing. 🌿 They believed the soul was immortal. After death it passed from one body to the next. The fear of death was cast aside. 💀 Once a year they marked the barrier between the living and the dead. October the thirty-first. 🎃 Every fire across Britain was extinguished. The Arch-Druid climbed a sacred hill in gold robes and lit a single new fire. They burned the bones of animals in it. The bone-fire. 🔥 We call it a bonfire now. People dressed as monsters to hide from the spirits of the dead. We call it Halloween. The Druids invented Halloween. 👻 In 60AD Rome came for them. Flat-bottomed boats crossed the Menai Strait. The cavalry swam alongside their horses. On the opposite shore women in black robes brandished torches. Druids with their hands raised to heaven. Screaming curses. Tacitus wrote that the Roman soldiers, hardened legionaries, were frozen with terror. 😨 They stood motionless. Shields not raised. Exposed to wounds. Their commanders had to shout at them to remember they were soldiers. They crossed. They massacred. They cut down the sacred groves. And Britain went silent. 🌑 No buildings. No inscriptions. No graves. Their temples were forest clearings. Everything we know about them comes from the people who destroyed them. And yet. 🌳 Halloween. The word bonfire. The oak groves they called sacred still stand. Be Proud Of Us. 🇬🇧 Your support goes straight into educating fellow Britons on the history they were never taught. Incredible 125 year old film of England in 1901. Captured by Mitchell & Kenyon in the streets of Manchester, in the final days of the Victorian era and the dawn of the Edwardian period.

This is a special kind of friendship that can stay with you for a lifetime. When Tony met that little robin, he never expected they would bond for so many years 💖✨ But after years together, Bob suddenly disappeared. To honor him, Tony wrote a book titled ‘Bob the Robin’ — like a love letter to the bird and his affection for robins. After that, Tony continued making friends with other robins. 📹putman_and_robin

Enlisted at 18. Rangers by his early twenties. Selected into Delta Force at 23. Seventeen deployments. In 2015 in Kirkuk, during a nighttime hostage rescue under heavy fire, he cleared the first building and freed 38 hostages. Then he crossed open ground under fire to a second building, climbed it, and went back in repeatedly through smoke and heat with bolt cutters until every single person was out. 75 hostages walked out alive. By 2020 he was a Medal of Honor recipient. Master Sergeant Thomas Payne. Born April 2, 1984. Some men are just built for a different calling. He answered it every single time.

Thanks for talking about this old painting I did in 1982, more than 40 years ago, before any of us had desktop computers, laptops, cellphones, or any digital options. All I had was a fire-burned memory of seeing Blade Runner, a piece of board, and a drawer full of gouache paints.

I don't know this artist but this image is a great example of how to tell when something is or isn't AI generated, because finger weirdness will not always be around. What jumps out in this image that makes it feel (because it is) human made? cont...

In 1946 a Hungarian visiting Britain made an observation. 🇬🇧 "An Englishman, even if he is alone, forms an orderly queue of one." He was right. But nobody told you why. It started in the factories of the Industrial Revolution. Same factory. Same start time. Same end time. Suddenly everyone needed the same thing at the same time. The queue was born. Then came WW1. Food ran short. People started joining queues without even knowing what they were for. Just in case it was something useful. Then came 1939. Britain stood alone. Everything was rationed. The government promoted taking your turn as a wartime virtue. Queue-jumping became a moral failing. Not just bad manners. Letting your country down. By 1945 it was who we were. The queue is democracy in its simplest form. Your time is worth no more than mine. A duke or a dustman. You wait your turn. In 2011 rioters looted a shop in London. They formed an orderly queue to climb through the broken window. One at a time. Even the rioters queued. 🇬🇧 In 2022 a quarter of a million people queued for twenty-four hours to say goodbye to the Queen. Nobody pushed in. Nobody complained. The whole world watched and didn't understand. That is your history. Nobody is coming to queue for you. Britain's story needs people to show up. Every story on this channel is available at proudofus.co.uk If you want to help us keep them alive: proudofus.co.uk/support Be Part Of Us. Be Proud Of Us. 🇬🇧

There's a mark on every ship on earth. ⭕️ And a shoe every British child has worn in PE.👟 Both named after the same man. Nobody taught you who he was. 🇬🇧 Samuel Plimsoll. Born Bristol, 1824. Grew up in poverty after his father died. Built himself back up. Became an MP in 1867. Merchant sailors were dying at 4x the rate of coal miners 💀 The ships were called coffin ships. Rotten. Overloaded. Heavily insured. Worth more to their owners SUNK than afloat 🚢 He published a book naming the owners by name. They sued him for libel. He won ✅ Parliament dropped his bill anyway. Nine years of campaigning. So he stood up in the House of Commons and called his fellow MPs VILLAINS 🤬 Shook his fist in the Speaker's face. The Merchant Shipping Act passed. By 1930 his load line was law in 54 countries. Today it sits on every merchant ship on earth 🌍 And the rubber-soled shoes every British child has worn in PE? The line where the sole meets the canvas. Named after him. 👟 Did they teach you his name? 🇬🇧 Nine years Parliament blocked him. He didn't stop. Your support pays for the research, the production and the hours it takes to get it right. Stories like Samuel Plimsoll's don't find themselves. proudofus.co.uk/support - Thank you for your continued support. 🙏🇬🇧 Be part of us. Be Proud Of Us. 🇬🇧
