I’ve seen BoB and The Pacific multiple times through and I think Halo is a perfect franchise to try and use that formula in a work of fiction. What made those series so good is that they were real stories, they interviewed the real paratroopers/marines and showed you those interviews. Now at first thought you may think this is an impasse, and that since halo is a work of fiction it would be impossible to interview actors portraying HCW veterans in a meaningful way, and that might be true if Microsoft had not gone all out for Halo 3’s marketing and done this very thing in the Believe trailers. Band of Brothers is the story of a single company of men’s progress through the European Theater of World War 2 from their training to the occupation of Germany. Now the HCW is a much larger conflict and ODSTs would take much higher casualties then Easy Company 2nd Battalion 506th PIR, which makes following the large cast of characters difficult as many of them are much more likely to die due to the nature of the conflict. The Pacific on the other hand follows the story of the 1st Marine Division through the eyes of three different marines and covers Peleliu and Okinawa which had extremely high casualty rates (40% and 35% casualty rates respectively) for US troops, they lost the core cast and multi POVs BoB had for a more narrowed focus while still managing to deliver. Another reason I think Halo lends itself to this form of storytelling is that it’s a military sci fi setting. All the games and books (barring the few civilian characters included who still work with military personnel) are centered around members of the UNSC Defense Forces. Civilian life is not explored often in halo because it is at its core a military story. One of the best parts of Halo Infinite was the return of marine allies. I’ve not been a fan of how Spartan focused Halo has become, as while Spartans have always been who you play as, and the center of the story and games, they were not in isolation. The halo universe is vast and rife with opportunities for further story telling from other POVs, but it does lend itself extremely well to military ones, so a series following a ODST unit throughout the war stylized like BoB and/or The Pacific would be quite welcome, but given the failure of paramount attempt at a show and most film studios aversion to military story’s/PoV for more general appeal I know it is unlikely to ever occur.

If I have to hear one more person say “they should make a halo show that’s band of brothers but with ODSTs” I’m going to pull a Far Isle Halo’s setting is a dark and fucked up place sometimes but it’s also full of hope, unambiguous heroics, and mystery; let it be that

Life as a mercenary is nice. Pay is good, ale is bounteous, and I can tell that this duke really cares about us and will be thoughtful in our placement on the battlefield

Marks raw speed that he’s shown should make fighting the Flaxans a non-issue He can fly to space in seconds and fight at super speed but is just hovering and letting the aliens whale on him

@dyingscribe And sometimes their lasers push guardians back and other times they just tank them. It doesn’t make any sense which is a problem for a verse that is trying to be a more realistic take on super powered people

The Flaxans perplex me because they’re just a conventionally armed military, it feels like the GDA could handle them with their own soldiers rather than depend on the guardians, or you know they could deploy both. A mechanized battalion with tanks and IFVs plus embarked infantry would probably have helped and allowed the guardians to find the time field device thing

Truthfully, the Invincible show made too many weapons and beings able to HURT Viltrumites. It kind of makes the concept of them being unstoppable highly unlikely. Maybe it's just the Flaxans, but there's way too much tech and science that can do it relatively quickly.

@Rookie_425 Major Silva and Lieutenant McKay are standouts, and the expanded scenes showing what the Marines were doing and adding Helljumpers into CE were exceptional. The raid on the PoA and subsequent convoy action back to alpha base are some of my favorite halo book moments

Dietz' The Flood is often criticized for not being a quality book compared to FoR or First Strike, even by myself retrospectively at times, but I do have fond memories of it being my introduction into Halo's expanded universe. Dietz's work always at the least felt fun to read.

I don't think many realize that on the halo 3 multiplayer map we got the first look at the halcyon re-design we then later see in reach, the map released April 9, 2009 with the Mythic Map Pack It has slight differences but for the most part looks the same as it did in reach
