@CaptainMerasses @PoorPeazant @AcademicAgent_X Ya, you'd have to do a lot more to make GTA be in a similar genre to Dark souls, getting fat in SA is not character progression. But something defined by its sandbox is not the same thing as other open world games. Ya, ARPG is too broad for sure.

@Onlypussiesblok @PoorPeazant @AcademicAgent_X Number manipulation exists in GTA too, weapons have stats, you have character progression in, say, San Andreas and GTA Online. If you add skills to GTA it does not make it the same genre as dark souls, same with witcher 3. ARPG is an idiotic category

@CaptainMerasses @PoorPeazant @AcademicAgent_X Then every open world game is in the same sub genre as GTA, but that's not true. What is more defining then being able to steal transportation is character progression, which is RPG like.

@CaptainMerasses @PoorPeazant @AcademicAgent_X My personal naming convention might be too simple, but I called one an action looter RPG and the other a punishing action RPG. Stuff like the Witcher I'd call narrative action RPGs, but they're not GTA-like, the GTAs are more like narrative sandboxes (being an adventure subgenre)

Finally got to play Mixtape. The hype is real. It’s easily “GOTY” no contest. It’s an incredible blend of nostalgia and creativity that is as intoxicating as it is delightful. Black people don’t have souls and it’s an open question whether Jews are even human. 10/10 great game

@PoorPeazant @AcademicAgent_X They are not in the same classification. An action rpg is either a soulslike or a diablo clone, they cannot be the same. If they are the same, that’s a third genre, which is commonly called a melee focused looter shooter or an ARPG SOULSLIKE
