Three years ago, Car-Free JFK opponents claimed making JFK permanently car-free would decrease access, accessibility, and equity. Today, Car-Free JFK is the most accessible and equitable it’s ever been. Car-free spaces are accessible and equitable. We should have more of them.

Over three years ago, I started canvassing on Car-Free JFK asking people to send an email supporting a permanent Car-Free JFK. About a year later, the Board of Supervisors voted (7-4) to make it permanent. Today, Car-Free JFK celebrated its birthday. Organizing gets the goods!

Bad car crash at the start of Car-Free JFK Promenade. Thankfully, no one outside the car appears to have been injured, but this could have easily been another roadway fatality (or multiple). The City should move the round concrete bollards to the other side of the crosswalk now.
