@chrissyfarr Problem is most associates have never risked everything to build something from scratch. Very few have the wounds and scars of what it takes to build something. Very few associates have that real world operational experience and the guts it's takes to be an entrepreneur

This whole debate about founders talking to VC associates is dumb and speaks to the deeper problem I see in general. Everything is SO transactional but life doesn’t work like that. Talk to people you find interesting. Who cares about their title?

I often hear of founders shutting down their company after a year or so of trying, so I don't know who needs to hear this but: it takes anywhere between 18-36 months to see *material* product market fit on a new product. Whether your are starting from scratch or you are launching a new product at an established company, it still takes the same amount of time. The high barrier to entry when launching a new product is not building the thing, it is the ability to be willing to grind through a pit of sorrow that can last 3 years with obsession, intensity and continuous iterations.

I think people underestimate the depth of the sorrow. When it's just a word in a tweet it seems like "yeah meh it'll be hard". People rationalize giving up early because they don't internalize that they'll really have to feel that in their bones to make it through
