“most efforts to protect the environment were actually only meant to preserve it for a select few. And that often meant deliberately placing pollutants in the neighborhoods of marginalized Americans.” #EnvironmentalJustice twitter.com/drbobbullard/s…

We can’t truly protect the environment unless we tackle social justice issues, too pops.ci/ESmVno via @PopSci #environmentaljustice

If you or a colleague of yours is an STS scholar can you get in touch with me? Need someone with the chops to outline rebuttals to three energy related projects (each continue the tradition of weaponizing western science for profit at the expense of people).

Adding on to that … he’s also responsible for college becoming unaffordable and the creation of massive college loan debt. Public higher education was basically free, but Reagan thought colleges were full of too many liberals, critical thinkers and anti-war advocates. He cut funding for California’s public colleges and said taxpayers shouldn’t be funding “intellectual curiosity.” He also knew that making college widely accessible would create more upward mobility among people he didn’t particularly care for (take a guess who that is!). So universities were forced to charge students to counter the loss in state funding — and that became the nationwide model. I’m sure this will alllll be covered in this film.

The people who love illegal settlements sure do hate student encampments. It’s wild to hear Zionists talks about “students forcibly taking over spaces.” No awareness whatsoever

I support exhausting all avenues to bring humanitarian aid to Gaza. But there is dissonance in providing Gazans food while supplying Israel bombs. In order to truly provide humanitarian relief to Gaza we need a permanent ceasefire; a “temporary ceasefire” is not enough. #CeasefireNow

"having mastered the inside game, schemers have a stake in its preservation, and this unspoken fidelity to the existing system tends to throttle their ambitions. History suggests it takes dreamers—firebrands, visionaries, assholes—to expand the horizons of the possible." -TNR

"Both natural gas and domestic crude oil production recently hit all-time highs, and despite talk of energy independence, much of that output will be exported. As usual, profits will flow to oil companies, while costs, financial and otherwise, will be borne by everyone else." TNR

“It’s not fair to continue to ask Indigenous people, Black, brown and poor people who live on the front lines to do this work for free simply because they have been doing it in their ‘spare time,’” Ms. Redford said." (nytimes.com)

Fossil-fuel subsidies surged to a record $7 trillion last year. Amid world temperatures also rising to unprecedented levels, subsidies should be scaled back to help slow climate change. bit.ly/3P9oeYr

@karlitaliliana An expanded appetite for uncertainty. Demanding finite plans forecloses on the creativity necessary to reimagine our society in liberated ways. Demanding plans as a form of security capitulates to the same existing systems & structures we profess to wanna transform.

I care deeply about the media conflating criticism of far-right Israeli policies and antisemitism for many reasons, including 1) It cheapens the concept; 2) It is weaponized to distract people from horrific injustices. twitter.com/equalityAlec/s…

My grandparents dealt with antisemitism for their entire lives. Weaponizing "antisemitism" to insulate a monstrous anti-democratic government and fascist vigilante settler violence from measured criticism and application of basic international law cheapens the concept.
