"We've got healthy numbers in that position" 🗣️ Eddie Howe doesn't view striker as a position that needs to be strengthened this summer.

I’d say it takes an elite coach to make a Brazil international from the Joelinton he inherited. Or to make England players from uncapped Burn, Gordon, Hall & Livramento. Isak’s improvement. Murphy being the player he was last season. Taking a team from 19th to 4th in 18 months…

@CraigHope_DM @NE5westend What do you class as an Elite Coach? Howe is a pretty good premier league level coach, but not in the elite bracket Like Pep, Simeone, Mourinho or even Rafa. I believe the "Elite Coaches" sometimes meet up, does Eddie ever get invited?

I like Nick Woltemade but he’s not able to play as a lone centre forward in the Premier League as things stand. And for his fanboys and girls read this statistic The German has not scored in the league since December, managing only 31 shots on goal in 30 league appearances this season with only 12 on target. Of his seven goals, one was a penalty #nufc

Eddie Howe says “blame me” after derby defeat to Sunderland: 🗣️ “Very painful, painful for supporters. They're the ones I'm thinking of. Very little to use as an excuse. We expect to be criticised so I understand the reaction at the end. 🗣️ “I'm fully committed to the job. I'm disappointed with my delivery today and this week. Today was even tougher than Barcelona. 🗣️ “I absorb the blame — I won't be deflecting it to players until my last breath. It’s going to be a painful few days for me. 🗣️ “It’s not a head loss. Our technical delivery was off today. We missed our midfielders, so it left us unbalanced. We made the game too much like they wanted it. 🗣️ “We never want to go through a hostile reception from crowd. I understand the criticism.” #NUFC

Eddie Howe vs Unai Emery. Context matters. #nufc There is rightly a lot of praise for Unai Emery at the moment. He is a superb coach and tactically brilliant. At the same time, Eddie Howe has taken a lot of criticism recently. So here is a fair comparison of their current tenures, with proper context about where each club was when they took over 👇 —— When they joined Eddie Howe, Newcastle (Nov 2021) 19th in the Premier League Winless in the first 14 games Historically relegation level form Thin squad with limited top level talent His job was simple. Keep Newcastle in the league. Survival was the brief. Unai Emery, Aston Villa (Nov 2022) 17th in the Premier League Struggling but outside the bottom three Much stronger squad on paper Significant investment already made Villa were underperforming rather than broken. —— Inherited squad quality Howe inherited a relegation battling group including Allan Saint Maximin Callum Wilson Beyond that, depth and quality were limited. He had to rebuild the squad and transform a losing culture. Emery inherited a squad including Ollie Watkins Emiliano Martínez Tyrone Mings Lucas Digne Emiliano Buendía Philippe Coutinho Multiple internationals. High squad value. A talented group needing structure. —— Transfer investment Both clubs have spent money. The key difference is context. Newcastle spent to lift a weak squad up to a competitive level. Villa had already spent heavily before Emery arrived, and he improved and refined that squad. Looking only at net spend does not tell the full story. —— What they have achieved Eddie Howe, Newcastle United League Cup winners (first major trophy since 1955) Champions League qualification twice From 19th in the table to top four contenders Massive culture shift and identity rebuild Record: 202 games, 105 wins, 39 draws, 58 losses (52% win rate) From relegation candidates to a Champions League side. That turnaround is enormous. Unai Emery, Aston Villa European qualification in his first season Champions League qualification Sustained top four challenger Consistently elite tactical coaching Record: 167 games, 94 wins, 29 draws, 44 losses (56% win rate) One of the best coaching jobs in the league. —— The takeaway Emery deserves huge praise. But Howe Started from a worse league position Inherited a weaker squad Was under immediate pressure to survive And has delivered Champions League football twice, plus silverware Given the context, it is entirely fair to say Eddie Howe’s work at Newcastle has been every bit as impressive as Emery’s at Aston Villa. Some would argue more so (me)

This talk about Ando & Newcastle is so annoying. If they wanted to keep him they’d of prioritised other sales and kept him. He’s the player he is today because Forest gave him the platform to play week in week out. If he stayed at Newcastle he wouldn’t be in the England 11. #NFFC

⚫⚪ Eddie Howe had no choice but to sell Elliot Anderson, even though he knew it was a mistake: 🗣️ "We knew the minute it was going to happen that we were massively selling him at a big discount. But we weren't in a very strong negotiating position at all. It was that or a points deduction. We had no choice but to make the sale, but it was not one we wanted to do. It didn't sit right with me then, and doesn't sit right with me today"
