Keep Newcastle in the league. Survival was the brief. Unai Emery, Aston Villa (Nov 2022) 17th in the Premier League Struggling but outside the bottom three Much stronger squad on paper Significant investment already made Villa were underperforming rather than broken. —— Inherited squad quality Howe inherited a relegation battling group including Allan Saint Maximin Callum Wilson Beyond that, depth and quality were limited. He had to rebuild the squad and transform a losing culture.
