The base isn't stupid. Rule #1 of being a Republican officeholder: do not weaken your own voters' electoral power. Some Indiana State Senators thought they were clever and didn't have to obey this rule. They will be private citizens shortly.

This is a good question! I'm appalled by the party at the moment. But I'm not ready to abandon the legacy. And in a binary world, I'm still more GOP than Dem on most policy issues. The future I want is more likely in a better GOP than a Dem party.
