Bennett Stirtz IS Cinderella. Two D-2 offers out of HS. Goes to NW Missouri State. Follows Coach to Drake, leads Bulldogs to NCAA tourney. Coach goes to Iowa, he doesn’t go to NBA Draft, instead takes millions less to follow McCullum to Iowa. Leads Hawkeyes to Elite 8.

@coachkwalsh @Vianneyhoops True true 😭😭😭, we had to slow it down, missing a key player to illness. It was either slow it down or get beat by 40 lol. We chose the 1st option.

“When you experience failure you have two options. You can either tell yourself the truth or you can lie to yourself”. A culture of excellence is built on a foundation of truth. If you can’t be honest about where you are, you’ll never get to where you want to be.

I asked Dan Hurley the same question I asked Tom Izzo: why does the media have a problem with coaches coaching players hard? Hurley: "Society has gotten soft in a lot of ways... The real world is tough and cruel... I'm preparing my players for life."

Every year it’s the same conversation… “Too small, can’t do this, can’t do that.” Then March comes… And a guard like Rob Martin changes everything. *** Film Breakdown

Coach AJ 🎯 Mental Fitness
Kelvin Sampson shares a powerful locker room message on humility, toughness, and the climb. "Always look at what can we do better. And don't ever lose sight of how important humility is." "Humility. 'Cause life will humble you. Once you start to think you've got it made..." Then he gave them the visual: "There's 2 ways to look at a mountain. You're either climbing a mountain or you think you've arrived." "Fellas, we're still climbing a mountain. We're still climbing that mountain now. This shit ain't over until sometime in March or early April." You can't be complacent. The moment you think you've arrived is the moment you stop climbing. "We have the kind of team to go far. That's why I coach you the way I coach you." "Remember I said, 'Choose between good or great.' Make a choice." Then he connected the dots: "We won this game on those 100-yard sprints at 7:00 in the morning in the football stadium." "Don't lose sight of why we do this stuff, fellas. It prepares you mentally." The uncomfortable work is what prepares you for the setbacks, mistakes, and missteps. You win games in the offseason with how you decide to show up and work. It means work with humility and know the climb never stops. (🎥University of Houston)

Congrats to the @LangstonLionMBB for making it to the @NAIA title game tomorrow! The last HBCU to win the NAIA Men’s Basketball National Championship was Texas Southern University in 1977. The last to win a NCAA title was Division II Virginia Union University in 2005.

One name that should be discussed more for D1 jobs is Langston’s (NAIA) Chris Wright. Wright is leading Langston to their 3rd NAIA National Championship appearance in the last 5 years. One of the best in the country getting players to buy in to what he is building #TheCarousel

If Langston wins tonight, they'll be the first HBCU to win an NAIA National Championship since Texas Southern did it in 1977. Langston has a chance to make big-time history tonight. The game is at 7 PM CT. Come to Oakroom to watch it with me tonight, or go to NAIA.org/watch to watch.

Ben McCollum on how he thinks prospective high school and portal players will perceive Iowa, considering what the program is accomplishing this season: “If you’re a tough dude, this is a good spot for you. If you’re soft and you like yourself way too much, this is probably not the spot for you. We just try to recruit tough dudes that want to be part of something bigger than themselves, and hopefully people see that.”
